Why are cross dressers assumed to be gay?

I enjoy crossdressing. but on the other hand I am just like the average dude down the street. What I do not understand is, why people tend to relate crossdresseing to gay. A gay man would not be interested in a woman or an effeminate man. So by saying that a cross dresser must be gay makes no sense at all!

All the general public knows about Cross dressing is what they see on the tabloid shows and it's always the seamier side. It is the nature of news reporting that sensationalism means ratings. Drag Queens being performers and media magnets, cross dressers are not.

The thing is, all my friends that are gay wear clothes like straight men, none of them crossdress. Perhaps it is the male to female cross dresser wanting to look like a woman. Women like men therefore a an Male to Female CD must like men and as a result be gay. This is faulty logic.

In the past, any man who behaved in any way effeminate was believed to be gay. They were called a pansy or limp-wristed. Some of these men were gay, some were not but assumed to be anyway. They didn't dress as women, at least not in the general public. But there was just something "different" about them.

I really believe that one of the reasons homosexuality has become more accepted is that the gay community was able to do away with this image of the effeminate gay man, the "screaming queen," and replace it with a more masculine image of the hot stud.

It's pretty basic, the general public doesn't understand the difference between sexual orientation and gender. Gender is whether you are, or feel you are male or female. Sexual orientation is who are you attracted to, men, women, or both. They are two very different things that many people confuse.

To sum up:

Most cross dressers are not gay.

Most exposure to cross dressers is drag queens

Gay guys are not attracted to drag queens.

Cross dressers are not attracted to drag queens

what did I miss?

I love being a girl and am not attracted to straight or gay guys. I LOVE women! I love them so much I wear their clothes.  Is imitation not the sincerest form of flattery?

so, you claim gender is how you feel, you enjoy being a woman, and you claim as a sexual orientation to like women....wouldn't that make you a lesbian?

I enjoy dressing like a women, but I do not feel like a woman, do not try and pass as a woman in public or anything like that. I feel like a man. I am always a man and am attracted to women.

So who is attracted to drag queens? ;)\r \r The drag queens I knew, and grew up with, were gay men when not doing their performances. Dressed like men. Only donned the dress, hair and make up when they were on stage. The severely plucked eyebrows were a bit of a giveaway offstage - but so were their mannerisms.\r \r I feel sorry for you, because as a woman, and one that has batted for both teams, I have never been attracted to a cross dresser - and cannot recall a single instance where a straight woman I knew was.\r \r So that makes your pool of choices very small. Which sucks. But being honest with yourself - and expressing that honestly - is the only way to truly be happy in this life.\r \r Good luck to you.

I told my last gf that whenever we are in a mall or near clothing stores & you want to have a look at the clothes & try on, by all means, STOP!\r \r I told her we can spend as much time as you want trying on clothes w/o having to buy any. She loved that!

Ok....I'm calling SHENANIGANS on this !!!!\r \r \r Really, why come here an expose yourself like this to a video game community?? Certainly there are sites out there that cater to your tastes. Did you not think that you would be harassed in some shape or form here?\r \r I'm sure most people could care less about your dressing habits or sexual preferences. \r \r I'm not judging here , to each their own...just questioning the motive or thought process.There's 2 threads in the OT forum started by you to promote your lifestyle, why? Yes it's off topic and barring politics and NSFW stuff people can post what they want but why a topic about a purse(sorry, man bag) and a thread about a manskirt? To what purpose?? Let me first say, I don't have a problem with what you claim to be. If that's what you like, good for you. I'm just going to state what I think, since you keep cramming it down all our throats as you keep proclaiming publicly over and over again. We get it, you like girl stuff.\r \r I still feel that this is one big joke. I said it before, something doesn't sit right with me about this whole thing. My first observation was your writing style and it's delivery. People don't write in this fashion unless they are pulling a fast one. It's not coming from a truth based writing format. It comes off untrue because of your technique in linguistic reference of what you want us to believe. YOUR TRYING TO HARD! it's not ringing true. Look at your arrangement and sentence structure of how you write. It doesn't feel right for a reason. You give the impression that you're not who you say you are and it shows up real clear in what your not saying. Second, you said women tell you what great legs you have. I've seen them, they don't look like great women legs-- just because you shaved them--that any women would want.. They not only look very much like men legs, they don't even look like the legs on the picture of the avatar you claim is you. You show us the avatar and say it's you, but you don't show us your face and body in the pictures of you wearing skirts. That girl in the avatar looks too thin to go with those legs. \r \r If you are, great, but I think at this point you can stop trying to convince us. Unless that's what makes ya happy, then by all means....center stage.....\r \r Sorry I'm not buying it. I could go on, but I'm wasting my time and I have a report to get done.\r \r

I want The General Public to realize that there is a SPECTRUM of Transgendered people. If this is to be a reality, then I am going to have to come of of hiding, make yourselves known, and get the facts out before That Public.\r \r I will repeat what I've always said, The Battle will eventually be won when a million little battle/encounters occur, and people begin to accept new ideas about cross dressing. They have a tendency to wear female clothing...not skirts necessarily, but shirts, pants, sometimes shoes. Many up their voice pitch to a more feminine tone.\r \r You have come quite far in the last couple weeks....from just being a guy with a bag to admitting you wear panties and makeup and really do feel like a girl. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to see you as being straight.....maybe not full on gay, but no where near being straight. And that is okay...but it isn't accepted here and it never will be. anyway, a majority of the people here are so desensatized that we don't understand why Durty's blogs are NSFW, we only had a mild reaction to 2girls1cup. we are aware, we just don't really care. you remind me of the 2 gay guys making out at the mall (we know you aren't gay) but they have to do it to make sure everyone around them knows that they are gay and that they are shocked by their actions.

I'm straight, and my girlfriend and I don't go around shouting it from the rooftops or making out in public places. That's almost attention-whoring. If you want something to seem as normal and regular, just live your life and don't go making a big deal about it.

how do you know what gay guys like or dont like? Just open the closet and come out its ok.......
