I know 10 different teachers and they all have a hundred horro storries of parents acting the way that has pissed you of..

Absolutely, Doodi!! I finally got around to watching the Democrat Debate that was on CNN on Sunday, and although I doubt he has a chance, I was constantly struck by the Gov of New Mexico (Bill Richardson). He had the great idea of giving teachers a living salary, great benefits, and letting them do their jobs without all sorts of red-tape and crap. \r \r My opinion is that teachers should be just below police, firefighters & EMTs in society. Give teachers the pay, benefits and respect they deserve and they will give you kids that will be productive members of society.

My major in College was Elementary Education and I work in Information Technology. Amazing how it is the teachers fault when \"timmie\" fails because he wasn't doing his homework , etc.

My mom has worked in the schools for years and I couldn't agree with your more. \r How dare we make people take resposibility for their actions (or lack there of) and make them stop passing the buck. Your kid sucks. Its YOUR fault. Not his friends,not his teachers, not your neighbors. \r

She would have to take a pay cut of close to 9k to teach there..

I remember going my kids Open House and listening to some of the parents blame the teachers for their kids problems. I would then go home and ask them about those kids and was usually told they were the class asshats.\r \r If my kids liked a teacher, I would make it a point to let them know and tell them their efforts are appreciated.

Agreed! Three teachers in my family (hubby's side) and one idiot sister-in-law who can't figure out why her 13 year old still can't do simple math, read proficently and has serious behavior problems. She thinks it is the schools fault....duh????!!! Who the heck is her parent I say???????

It's about personal accountability. It's easier to blame a teacher for all of your child's faults rather than look in a mirror. I just feel sorry for the kids growing up with those kinds of parents.

It's called sitting on the sidelines twice a week at your son's game listening to a bunch of ignorant people go on and on and on about stupid stuff they know nothing about and dissing their kid's teachers for their kid's behavior problems and poor study habits all the while having to be quiet and polite or having to find a new place to sit. I'm not a teacher nor do I play one on TV. But I knew a bunch of teachers as a kid.\r \r The problem with the US, parents for get what they exist to do: parent.\r \r Parenting hasn't changed since the days we dragged our wives out of the caves after clubbing and calling them \"mine.\" You still have the same purpose in life and that's to protect and teach your child right from wrong and how to run from big ugly bears and kill water buffalo.\r \r Okay, nix the bears and buffalo. But you should still teach your kids and stop bitching at others for your lack of trying.

I am a high school teacher myself. Everybody has hit the nail on the head. Parents are to blame a lot. Ask my kids how many don't have a curfew. I do every semester. At least 75%. A lot of my kids are raising themselves. It really is sad.

I've heard of many stories of ridiculous treatment of students at schools. Most recently was that Counterstrike kid who modeled his school. Still, those stories are so rare compared to all of the students in school! I'm inclined to believe the teachers first. I don't have kids, but even if I thought the punishment/grade was a bad call, I think that you should still endure it and work with the teacher/student relationship to make up for it (if applicable). Showing the other students that order must be maintained before opinion is a very important one!\r \r When I was a kid, most people understood that the teacher is a lot more credible than most children.

Doodirock,\r \r You are a deep, deep man.\r \r I have taught in two different cities: Beverly Hills and Compton.\r \r In Beverly Hills, I had every resource one could imagine, however, the parents felt that they paid you directly and therefore, talked down to you as a teacher.\r \r In Compton, I had little to no resources and many parents did not come to Back To School Night. But, they were very helpful, especially, Hispanics. \r \r Surprisingly, the kids in both cities were the same: watched a lot of T.V., had cell phones, were disrepectful to their parents, were interseted in the opposite sex, had cash money on them, did not want to be in school, and were left at home alone, a lot. \r \r Despite the earning difference of the parents in both cities, the kids still behaved similarily. This tells me two things; (1) money has very little to do with kids attitude, and (2) our kids' attitude and behavior are a result of us parents not spending time with our kids (i.e., raising them).\r \r Doodirock, thank you for thinking about a teacher today.\r \r Christendom
