The Girls of GalX
I don't have *any* design docs, so I'm using this blog as a running train of thought for the game design :)
Hopefully I can get some feedback (good and bad!) and suggestions along the way.
I didn't get any coding done today but I did manage to get some artwork together for the various ships. A couple of years ago I bought a 3D model pack for another game I was going to make that never saw the light of day. I completely forgot about it until last night. This morning I busted out my favorite 3D modeler and took some top-down renders of the models. Here they are with a breif write-up on each.
Fighter
A multi-purpose ship who's goal is to be a balance among all available craft type. This ship is equipped with lasers, missiles, and has moderate speed and maneuvering.
Interceptor
The interceptor is a hybrid between the fighter and the scout. It carries a laser-only loadout in order to make room for larger engines. The manueverability of this ship is excellent and the speed is between the fighter and the scout.
Scout
With almost no weapons, this craft is build completely for speed. It can dance circles around all other craft type. However if the pilot is not able to avoid incoming fire then the dance may be over quickly!
Support
A unique ship in that it has the ability to use a tractor beam to slow down and, to a limited extent, control the flight of other craft. It also has the most extensive radar radius of all the ship types. Maneuvarbility for this craft is moderate and the single basic laser is on-par with the weaponry of the scout.
Assault Bomber
The assault bomber is a fighter craft that has been stripped of all missile weapons and outfitted with a basic bombing payload. The maneuverability and speed of this ship is slightly lower than the fighter.
Heavy Bomber
The heavy bomber has been stripped of all laser and missile weapons. It caries a complete loadout of bombs. The shields and hull of this ship are the highest in the game. Unfortunately this ship is also the slowest and least manueverable.
Repair Skipper
This utility ship has the ability to repair hull damage and enhance the shield recharge rate of surrounding ships. Its manueverability and speed is high and caries a basic weapons loadout.
Stealth Fighter
The stealth fighter is the only ship in the game which can dissapear. The ship must exit stealth-mode in order to fire any weapons. The ship caries a basic loadout of weapons and is slightly less manueverable than the fighter.
To those who noted there are no weapons on these suckers...
I didn't render any weapons on these ships because I honestly haven't thought about the various gun "types" on each ship yet. That will come after I get each ship implemented in the game with the appropriate manueving capabilities. I do, however, have seperate "gun" models that I can attatch to each ship. I rendered the originals of these ships at 640x480, but shrunk them down to 128x98 for in-game use.
Now I'm off to create a master "todo" list on zoho....and make another tasty beverage!
