Prepping for the Hype

This past Saturday at 10am I got the warning call.  Gamestop was letting me know about the midnight release of Halo3.....and warning me to get there at 8pm.  Now this wasn't a live person....the was seriously an automated [from corporate in TimBuckToo] message telling me to show up 4 freakin hours early.


So, I call CJ, my ex-marine now game store manager buddy - and try to figure it out.  I am perplexed by it.  I mean yeah, when the Harry Potter movies come out I pre-pay for the tickets and show up around 11pm to get in line for a seat.  I was expecting similar circumstances for Halo3.  So CJ confirms my fears - yeah, it is expected to be a madhouse.

  • Little bity Mall store
  • Mall doesn't allow kids under 18 without a parent
  • Gamestop won't sell it to anyone under 18 without a parent
  • Marines are coming out to do some stuff in conjunction with it.
  • Did you pay it in full?  Yeah
  • Don't forget your ID.


He plans on preringing everyone so everyone is basically paid in full at midnight.  Good for him, bad for me.  Like any M game, he expects a LOT of issues.  They have some sort of song and dance they have to give every parent that buys the game for the kids.  There will be people with no parent, no id, no clue....there will be angry angry little "H3 or Die" emo kids that may try to start a revolution or something....


I was planning on just showing up about 11:30 and swinging through to pick it up.  Now I expect to have to deal with a swarm of parents that are grumbling and bitching about video games.  A bunch of kids being....well kids...all jacked up on the Halo High.  I can't exactly take my Einstein biography in there and just sit quietly.  I am seriously considering just waiting until tomorrow at lunch to go pick it up.  Not like my kid is going to play it tonite or anything.   Can't the old woman with job to go to at 8am get some priority here?


::sigh:: Any suggestions?  Would carrying around a carboard cut out of Master Chief distract the mob, or make them tackle me?  What about if I bake a bunch of cookies with Ambien or something in them.....hmmm...

Wear a skimpy \"princess Leia\" outfit and you will get to the front of the line.\r \r Seriously though. Unless you are planning on staying up all night to play the game then why not wait until lunchtime. Just make sure the manager doesn't give away your copy.

wait until tomorrow...pick it up at lunch. even if you have it in your hands tonight you probably wont get to play it much till tomorrow anyways.\r \r and there are more than enough copies around.

By the time you get through the line and back home it's probably too late to play much anyway. My GS is re-opening at 8 am on Tuesday so I'm just gonna get a good nights sleep and pick it up in the morning.\r

I waited in line for 4 hours for the H2 launch and was planning on doing the same thing for H3 so this isn't a surprise to me at all. I took the rest of the week off to play and am going to stay up all night playing until I have to take my son to school in the morning. \r \r If you can wait until tomorrow then it's the safest bet but if your like me you'll just have to face the Timmies. I'm taking my laptop, headphones, a thermos, and a chair to make the wait more tolerable. Although I have to say I actually met a couple cool people in line for H2 and had some interesting conversations.

Dean and I are going to Gamestop by 9 as recommended and I'm going to laugh and pity the little bitch-asses that can't get the game and I'm going to give the parents of other bitch asses that cater to their children's every whim dirty looks. And I'm going to remember why 2o2p is so great. Muahahahahhahahahha!

I'll be getting mine tonight. I figure I'll show up at 9:00, check things out, get my number, and go sit in the car for awhile and read. Go back in and get it at midnight.\r \r I also plan on wearing my 2old 2pwn t-shirt. Should be interesting with the parents who don't have a clue about video games and me with my white beard and salt and pepper hair in the middle of a bunch of 'Timmies'!

I'm friends with the local EB manager and the way they are doing it, he told me to show up at 9 to get a ticket then come back around 11:30-11:45 and get in line with the ticket.

I paid mine off yesterday and will be picking it up after work on Tuesday. I thought about going out tonight, but seriously, it's a video game... I can live without until tomorrow night.

I just called my GameStop. They are going to collect $ from those who have not paid before 12am, to help things go smoother. Then at 12am let 10 people into the store at a time. They are not doing tickets at mine. I am wearing my \"2old2playHALO but old enough for you mom\" tshirt.

Go buy yours at 7-11 (Yes, 7-11 will be selling them at midnight) and use the money you pre-paid for H3 towards COD4.

i am going on wed, i would hate to kill someone's little shitling because its parents didnt teach it manners. So therefore i will getting it on wed if there is no line i do not wait in line, i have patience to wait till there is no line. see ya online

I am in the exact same boat Jeep, if I go at all I will do the get a ticket and wait in the car thing...more than anything I just have never been to a launch so I thought i would check this one out.

I will be in the parking lot, similar to Rabb, with a nice cigar, my Zune and a couple movies. I plan on showing up at 7:30 or 8, getting a parking spot, walking to Barnes and Noble...reading...getting my ticket, going to Taco Bell for a cheesy/beefy burrito, then back to the car at around 8 or 9 and watching my movie and the freak-fesitval.

Ok, I know I have gotten on the bandwagon way late if everyone is talking about waiting in line *tonight*.\r \r I was hemming and hawing about snagging the Legendary edition of Halo 3, but I should probably skip it since I didn't already order one.

I live about 5 min from my GS so I guess I'll roll by ~ 9pm get my digit then go home and play some COD4 beta until 11:30ish. I had planned on just rolling up at 12:15am and snagging my copy, but it sounds like it might be a zoo.

I just remembered that in my Xterra the DVD player on the ceiling has hookups for my 360...so I guess I can kill time like that also

I carry a wiffle bat and pepper spray. The kids laugh and point- \"Haha, that old dude's got a wiffle bat! What're ya gonna do with that thing, old man?\" \r \r Then I blast them in the eyes with the pepper spray. They never see it coming. Stupid Gamestop employees. The kids in line don't give you any shit when you hammer the manager first. Just like prison.
