New game

My cable company carries the GamePlay HD channel. One of the neat "shows" on it is called Raw Play which is simply 2 hours of recorded gameplay.

They showcased John Woo's Stranglehold and it looked interesting enough for me to pick it up the other day. Since this is a game that's about a year old, it only cost $30. This game kicks some ass!

If you've ever watched a John Woo movie, you can figure out what kind of game it is, a lot of shooting at endless bad guys. BUT what makes it interesting is that you can go into slow motion (what they call Tequila Time after the hero's name) while firing (ala Max Payne). Diving, sliding over tables or even sliding down railings automatically puts you into Tequila Time or you can manually trigger it. You can also interact with the environment such as shooting at signs or air conditioners that will drop down and kill an enemy. The more unusual ways you kill someone the more style points you get and at the end of a level you get a rating (A+ thru F-). I've only played it for an hour or so but it's been a blast.

The single player is short and I'm sure no one is playing the multi-player any more, but the game is so much fun that I think there will be replay value in playing levels again and again to kill guys in more and more stylish ways.

For all of you out there, this is a definite rental. I bought it because I knew my 15 year old son would love it. His reaction? "Dad, this game is SICK!".

Just read your wife story, too funny. Women do that stuff all the time. You just have to pick when to play along and when not to, so that means weighing what you get in return for listenting to a 30 minute rand a a day or two of cold shoulder. I thnk you picked right getting the 360.

Considering the need you have to have for a distraction. You did make the right choice.

ya uses the eye toy and is a collectable card game\r \r during combat your card shows as fully 3D item in your hand (animated as well) and by moving the cards around the board is how you play... it looks ok.. but really in most peoples homes the set up wont work \r \r Camera above a table\r Board on a table\r 2 + people playing locally\r and you have to buy cards (physical not online I think) to use in the game.. seems a bit much..

The guys at Penneye Arcade are sure into it. Unless it comes out on Billyboy's 360 though, I am not too interested.

AFTER SPANDING $400 ON YOURE CRAPBOX YOU SHOULD WANT TO SELL IT TO SCREW BILLY AND BUY A $600 GAMING MACHINA OF TEH GODZ AND THEN SPEND $60 FOR A GAME AND THEN BUY BOOSTER PAX OF CARSD LIKE YOURE A 8 YEAR OLD LOVING POKEMON, CAUSE THATS WHAT REAL GAMING AND THE TRUTH IS ABOUT.

well Penny Arcade guys follow their dollar.. Sony advertises on their site, they do bash the odd Sony thing, but really those guys rarely ever call a game early in its development a sure fire win... and again I say this... look at the Penny Arcade game coming... ya thats a winner... sure... in 1999 maybe
