Minions speech evaluation...

So yesterday the Minions (my twins) got a speech evaluation...Apperently their verbalization is about 4 or 5 months behind. The therapist said this is common for twins, but even still they are a little behind for twins.


So I immediately started feeling like I had failed some how...19months in a I fucked my kids up...wtf...I told this to Teri and she said she felt the same way...But the therapist said no that is not the case, the reason they are behind was because, well, we just provided things to them instead making them "ask" for them. Basically we know their different verbal cues, like I am hungry fucktard!! feed me, or dude, I got a load in my diaper, need a little help here!!..But they did not have to say anything. So they just "learned" if I grunt this way I get this, or if I "un...un...(sound they make)" I get this...


So now we need to encourage them to "use words" instead of gestures and grunts...She said there comprehension and problem solving skills were very advanced for there ages and that the kids should catch up pretty quickly with a couple of months of speech therapy...


So I guess this is the next step...Damn it...We have been doing so much to make sure we did not do to much of this, or not enough of that...WTF...I guess you just do what you can, the best that you can.


Still sucks, still feel like I missed/fucked up something.

No you didn't mess up dude. Just have them read the comics out loud. Helps my daughter.

Get used to saying \"Use words\" It will help greatly (I have twins also).

Dude...my nephew is 3 and he is still having a tough time talking. Everyone is trying to get him to talk and he does the basics but he's behind. We brought him to speech people and everything and they say it isn't too uncommon. He says everyone's names and the basics like thank you, bye bye, and when he falls he keeps on saying it's o.k. lol. He says more but not as much as he should be. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Should all work itself out :)

I can't tell you how many times I have ignored obvious gestures from my kids and said, \"use your words!\" I sound like an idiot.. but damn it works man!\r \r Both of them would talk your ear off if they could. Just last night my 3 yr old commented that the \"Puppies make Cole very nervous and agigtated.\" NICE VOCAB KIDDO!

The bottom line I take from reading this blog is that you are a fantastic and concerned parent. That is a heck of a lot more than the majority of parents that I see today. I am going to be a father in the new year and I get anxious at times. Based on where my wife is in the pregnancy, the bones in the baby's ears are starting to develop and it has the ability to recognize voices. I was already concerned and asked my wife if I was speaking enough to the baby,

Thanks peeps..\r \r I just got to do what we need to do...\r \r Hopefully Logan will be drafted in the first round of the nfl in 2028, and will not need a good vocab...Just say...MMM MUST CRUSH FACE...
