Lulu our rat died a couple of hours ago

Just a quick note to let everybody know that our rat that was poorly died a couple of hours ago.  She had had a bad start in life and then we took her on and since then we gave her the best we could.  Unforunately with poorly treated rats they tend to get ill quicker and their life expectancy is shorter.  Weve been hanging in there as much as we could and perhaps we should have had her put to sleep earlier but she was a battler and thats why we continued treatment.

We woke up this morning and thought she had died during the night as she was not moving and was not responding.  What she was going through was the last stages of life and passed away about an hour after in my wifes hands.  Our only feelings are that we had given her the best life we could and we allowed her to live slightly longer than what she would have in the wild.

On that note RIP Lulu.

Dude, you have rats for pets ??!?! Here in the US we try and keep those things OUT of the house. Sucks to loose a pet though.

Tank - we have 13 rats for pets or had. We sorta rescue mis-treated ones and they are totally different to the ones that invade your house.

I completely fail to undertsand how anyone could keep any rodent OTHER than a rat if they want a rodent for a pet. The best small furry animals to interact with , smart, inquisitive and gentle - especially good for children, domesticated rats completely lack the \"nippy little fucker\" attitudes of such things as Hamsters and Gerbils. Tank, search someone out who keeps them and see for yourself, you may surprise yourself at how pleasant they are.
