LAN Tickets

OK.... Time to get serious...

The 2old2play Chicago LAN attendence has gone up each year. 2 years ago we crossed the 100 mark, and last year we were over 130. Well with only 5 weeks or so until the lan we have only sold 54 tickets!?!?!?!

Now I know the economy has been better, but WTF? If you have come in the past, wouldn't you want to come again in the future. I can't see why we would have such epic attrition. Anyway, I'm not trying to guilt anyone (I did that on the podcast this week), but step the fuck up. We made room arrangements based on what happened last year, and we're going to end up eating a huge cost. If you're just being lazy and haven't bought your ticket yet, please do, so that you can be counted...

Thanks,

Derek

Support your 2o2p CHICAGO Lan. It's only once a year and a lot of people work very hard to bring this together for everyone. \r \r This is the lan that connects us all, clans or not. Don't miss it!

I can't go due to moving to unknown location at an unknown time period for work. So my life revolves around my job. Wish I could make it though.

I would love to come but I'm out of work and my Wife is laid off. 90% of my friends have either gotten laid off or have been let go completely. Times are hard man.

Yeah, I think if it's not too late, you may want back down the room reservations...my company canceled it's user conference this year to due expected lack of attendance.

I was planning on going. Now I can't. Life sucks sometimes.

Got my LAN & plane tickets and plan to drink plenty of beer and watch the ship (i.e. economy) sink into the sea.

We need to try to create community and a reason for people to go to lan all year long, not just in the months before we ask people to drop cash. That is all. We will try harder next time.

Well D, you would be gainfully employed. When you're household is down to one income or worse, maybe not any income and surviving off unemployment checks, shelling out 100 bucks for a ticket, multiple hundreds for airfare, a hundred or two for a hotel room and then another couple hundred for eating and entertainment, that's 2 weeks worth of unemployment money burned on a luxury.\r \r I dunno out of the potential pool of 2o2p people who could go have had their household income adjusted downwards in the year since last LAN but given the ticket sales i would expect it's a significant amount.\r \r

And then there's the domino effect. Of the group of people who can't afford to attend this year, there is another group of people who having their friend(s) not attend has influenced their decision to not go this year too.\r \r With the natinoal economy at Depression levels, in hindsight i'm sure everyone would have understood if the decision was to cancel the LAN this year rather than go forward in this economy.

I'll get my ticket this week. I'm a slacker.

Unemployed and attending. Gotta love credit.

There's gotta be another explanation past the economy. LAN tickets are down 50%. Jobs aren't down THAT much.
B

ummm, yeah..... they are. there are parts of the country with over 20% unemployment rates. Plus, I would bet that the vast majority of this sites' members are affected by either unemployment or a substantial loss in their 401k or other retirement savings due to the economy.
J
Jmarps·
@TDrag, just cause unemployment is not down 50%, there are a lot of folks that may be playing it safe and backing off on luxury spending a bit just in case their job is next.

the lan is the shit, im going\r whether i have a job or not at that time\r

Am I insane.... or am I seeing double?
T

JMarps - Agreed. But you might also agree that such fear contributes to the continued lack of economic growth.

I am with you J-Cat, not sure where this \"Ghost Blog\" came from, but it bumped my icon off the damn banner. GRR!

@ TDrag, yes that may be the outcome, but I am not going to risk my family's financial well being just to further the economy. It's just not prudent.\r \r Additinally, if folks had save a little more and spent a little less, we would not be in the mess.
