The Chicago Lan party will take place on Friday the 9th of November till Sunday the 11th in lovely Chicago, Illinois. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, Chicago just outside of O’Hare airport. Group rates will be $75.00+tax and must be ordered and confirmed through the Hotel! Please call 1-888-421-1442 to book your hotel and make sure you let them know you are with the 2old2play group in order to get your group rate. Doing so ensures not only your rate, but our ability to secure the game room at an affordable cost. If you have any other questions you can contact them at 1-888-421-1442 .
If you are flying into O’Hare, you must plan ahead to take a cab or train to the Hyatt. There is currently no shuttle service. However if you are driving in, parking is FREE, so feel free to spend the whole weekend at the hotel. If you decide to bring your kids and family you will be happy to know that our hotel is situated between both downtown Chicago and northern Suburban Shopping. They will have access to hundreds of restaurants, a shopping mall, movie theater and a GameWorks. If anyone would like to volunteer with set up or is coming in on Thursday, please email me at lan@2old2play.com so I can add you to the list of Staff. The Hotel will be providing a bar directly next to the Lan room so we ask that members DO NOT bring their own food or beverage into the Lan.
Fankly, we think it's been way too long. In fact the last few years without the LAN have truly splintered us as a community. We think it's time to stop worring about our game of choice and start building a better community. This place is home for a lot of different types of older gamers and the LAN is a perfect way to come together for the greater good and celebrate being a part of 2o2p. We truly hope that regardless of what clan you're a part of, you will join us this coming November.
Obviously there will be some serious Halo 4 this year, but we really don't want to single out any one game. We are shooting for a big presence from our BF3 division, as well from our Forza following. On top of that, we plan to continue our support of WoW, SWTOR, and Guild Wars 2 on the PC. Again, we don't want the game to matter, only the people who play them.
Since this is a LAN party, we will not be providing any of the gaming equipment. We ask that you bring as much equipment as you can from the list below. We know this is asking a lot, but this is an unsponsored event and so cost of space, TV rental, and prizes are factored into ticket price. 2old2play is creating this event through our members donations so we only charge for what we need to pay for. It is possible that 2o2p will be able to gain sponsorship and if so, ticket holders will be notified and adjustments will be made to the list. Don’t forget to mark all your equipment. 2old2play will not be responsible for any lost consoles, games, or controllers.

What size monitors will be there? I heard a rumor that there will be 4:3 aspect 19 in lcds? Really? How much did we raise?

I know the hotel doesn't want us to bring in liquor into the room, but can we bring in anything else? Like soda, chips or food from local restaurants?

You should probably add HDMI cable to that list. I just realized today that I needed one. Not all of us have HDTVs so needing an HDMI cable wasn't even on my mind.
You can find cheap cables and connectors here...
Just saying...

Getting pretty psyched about the LAN! My wife, Shelly, and I will be driving up from Fort Worth, leaving Thursday, and we should be getting into Schaumburg Friday noonish, in time to grab some sliders and help set up monitors or whatever. My wife made all the arrangements and consequently the Kickstarter e-mail was sent to her inbox. She is not attending the LAN, but if I don't get in because her name is on the list I will drive over to Cabrini Green and tell those folks about the KKK meeting at the Hyatt. I'm bringing my 360, controllers, headset, HDMI-DVI thingy, Forza 4, Forza Horizon, Dead Island, Mortal Kombat, and whatever else is on the hard drive...basically anything multiplayer. I don't have any Halo games and have never played Halo multiplayer. Are there any other Forza guys coming? Trying to get a simple yes or no out of those grumbling dicks is like pulling teeth. Do they still run those riverboats out of Aurora?...I would like to slip some gambling in, si est posible.

OK I have one complaint to make...
I don't like the kickstarter thing. I was on vacation at the time I made my pledge so I did not notice that the $125 didn't come out of my account last month. So this morning I got an email saying that they tried to charge my credit card and it didn't go through. Well no surprise there because I used a debit card and I had assumed that I was being charged back in August. Luckily I was able to put this on a real credit card this morning so I can stil go on the trip. But what if I couldn't? Then I'd be out in the cold.
Can someone in charge of this tell me why you guys didn't use a system that would just charge us for the tickets at the time we authorized the transaction? I really don't get it. I mean was there a possibility that the lan wasn't going to happen and you didn't want to have to deal with refunds?
Also...
I emailed you guys but no one has emailed me back. I need to know if there is a cut off for reserving the hotel rooms? I haven't booked mine yet and I wanted to know how long I had to get in under your rate. It would have been easier if the hotel wasn't requiring up front payment in full. But it is what it is. I just want to know when this rate expires. I really want to book at the Hyatt so you guys get the credit but I need information in order to do that.
Thanks!

LB really answered most of the questions, but just to reiterate:
We chose kickstarter for the protection of you guys and it in no way protects me or 2old2play. No matter what happens with the LAN I am on the hook for it. I have to sign contracts to secure the location, TVs, Power, and rooms well in advance. A down payment is needed on all of this and if the LAN fails to get the number needed, I pay out of pocket for any "damages" the hotel or rental agency can claim.
With kickstarter we can at least make sure that if we do not secure enough funding or people to the LAN, that each and everyone of you wont be charged. There will always be an inherent risk when throwing an event like this. I do it becuase I LOVE seeing and meeting everyone. I wish there was an easy way to do it, but truth be told Kickstarter has been by far the safest and best way to protect site members from any issues that might arrise. They even take a fairly large percentage of the money, but over all I think it's worth it.
As for the hotel, you can book rooms at the group rate up until Oct 18th. If you have any trouble booking rooms, just send me a PM with the issue and I'll take care of it ASAP.

I will try to do the best to answer your questions and hopefully Doodi can correct or clarify anything I say incorrectly.
PART of the reason kickstarter was used was yes, because if the LAN did not happen then refunds would not be an issue. Other reasons are the ease of setting up the payments for people that may or may not have a paypal account or want to go through the hassle of setting up a paypal account (as easy as it is, not everyone wants to do that). So with kickstarter using Amazon payments chances were it would be much easier/convient for people to set up payment.
Not having the lan WAS a possibility if we did not get to the 5k mark. Doodi would have been financially on the hook if that did not happen (mainly with the hotel, due to contractual reasons. Once the contract was signed, the day after a good portion of the 5k would be due to them). So with the possibility of having to fork out money having to worry about refunds is something no one wanted to worry about, think about it as a safety net for you (all backers) and him.
As far as how long the room rate is good for, I do not have an exact date. I would think as long as there are rooms still available for our group, then the rate should be good. Please keep in mind we have sold out our block of rooms TWICE so far, so if you are still planning on going I would make those reservations as soon as possible.
I will try to let Doodi know your question and have him reply as soon as he can. I think he is out with family today, so the earliest would probably be late Sunday or sometime Monday.

Hey...
Just tried the link and it takes me to a page with the group info but I can't actually book. I had to search for dates and then create a reservation. When you do that all I get is a $85 room with 2 beds. Where is the $75 rate?
Also...is anyone looking for a roomie? Prefer female please.
I'm going to hold of a bit before I get the room.

I looked and it seems like the $75 option no longer comes up. Might have to check with Doodi, maybe all of those are already booked. Still a way better deal for $85 / 2 people. Maybe check with Maxikat and Edie in the Tards - they might go?
As far as shirt size, I assume Doodi will ask for those after the Kickstarter ends.

Yeah and if I had a 2nd that would be awesome... Do we know how long this rate will be up? I really don't want to end up in a different hotel. I did that last time. My room was cheaper but by the time I paid all that cab fare to get to the LAN I might as well of just stayed with you guys. Although since I'm driving this time it might just be an option for me. If I can't find a roommate and am faced with paying $85/night just for myself.
*sigh*

I pledged $125... where do we give our shirt size? I'm a big girl and if you all show up with a medium I might have to hurt somebody. LOL
Also...do we get the shirt at the LAN or will it be mailed to us? I'd like to put my GT on the back if I can.
Thanks!

I'm going to get all the sizes about a week before the LAN. Lan attendees will get their shirts at the lan party while people not attending will have their sent out to them a week or so after.

OK what color is the shirt? I want to bring the right color letters so I can put my GT on the shirt when I get there. Just gotta make sure I remember to bring an iron.

Should be about $15 bucks or so. I'll see if the hotel has a flat free (most do).

I just got off the phone with the Schaumburg Hyatt.
They have no information about a "2old2play Group" or discount and are not offering the $75.00 a night group rate.
Regular rate is $109.00 plus tax per night.
I did get 3 nights for the price of 2 though so the total would be cheaper than 3 nights at $75.00.

It's just not in the system yet. Please make sure you get on the books for the group if you can. If you could PM me the info and I'll yell and scream until we get those 3 nights added. Without it counting for our nights its could potential cost us in the thousands. Not meeting our quota means our LAN room doubles or tripples in cost. I'm going to call them right now to make sure they get the group rate in ASAP!

Start with the date! It still says August. Also you need an obvious link on homepage and in forums to this page. Was hard to find. Not going myself but eager to drop a few bucks to help the effort whenever that is ready. Hopefully it goes smooth this year.
Good Work

Good catch. I'm still working out the kinks, but once we're ready to go full on I'll have links up the ying yang. We soft launched the kickstarter today while I make sure everything is in order for tomorrows actual launch.

I'm ready to purchase, but the kickstarter levels need to be more detailed - usually with the kickstarter campaigns each level also gets all the levels below it as well. I was informed by Nolan that the "200+ doodi and dsmooth hand and foot" is not included with the $215, $225, etc levels. Gotta be more specific so I can buy!

Sorry, everything over 100 includes a LAN ticket as well. I put that in the description just now so hopefully that clears up any issues.

Thanks, saw that. I guess my question was what if I want what's at the 225 level and at the 215 level? Banner, shirt & casts. Do I have to pay $440 or is that just not an option? :)
Doodi

Yes they would be two seperate options. However you would have 2 LAN tickets as well since they both count as a ticket to the lan. Not sure why you would want 2 though.
