Homefront

Freakin' spammers.

I decided to finally open up Homefront today - bought it at launch, was still in the shrinkwrap.  The game (single player only so far)  is decidedly mediocre.  It's not bad or anything, but it does nothing to separate itself from a crowded herd of FPS's.  It kind of feels like Blacksite: Area 51.  A decent enough game, yet unremarkable in every way.  I believe the game is written by the guy who wrote Red Dawn.  Unfortunately, there's very little storytelling going on.  Just objective to objective.  There was a clever Red Dawn reference in the labor camp (Wolverines!), but so far, the characters don't mean a thing to me.  It seems to be a 7'ish type game.

Toys R Us had a buy 1, get 1 half off sale this weekend, so I picked up Socom 4 for the PS3 and Crysis 2 for the 360.  I've yet to try either.  Had to pull a 32 hour shift at work Friday/Saturday so most of Saturday was spent in a haze. 

Best Buy has a $20 off Top Spin 4 coupon in the new Gamer magazine.  I may bite on that.  I don't know why, but I really enjoy tennis video games.  My theory is that it's sort of a link/glue through video gaming history.  After all, one of the first games that many of us played was Pong.  Pong is essentially video tennis.  Put all the fancy graphics, move controls, 3D, etc... and Top Spin 4 is still Pong.  It's comforting in a way - no matter how far things advance, the core remains the same.   No matter where you go, there you are - Pong is the answer to the universe.
