Hey you Pennsylvanians!
I'm looking around at gunsmithing schools and Pittsburgh is looking OK. Anybody able to tell me about cost of living, crime rates, anything pertinent to someone who's considering living in the area for maybe a year and a half?

Thanks anyway. The site says they're in Avalon if that's even remotely helpful.
Dude, come to Boston, I'll take care of ya and get you all set. You can even get a home cooked meal once a week and look at my wife's ample bosom!
How many minutes is straiouttabrockton from the pitt? Besides I'll definately be up there for operation tattoo a vet phase line bob.
I'm not from the Pit area, but I'm familiar with it. \r
tip #1 The Valley is MUCHO expensive.\r
tip #2 a short commute into Pitt can cost alot for parking, but save TONS on cost of living. \r
Tip #3 crime is less there than it is in York, Philly, or Harrisburg. \r
tip #4, never EVER EVER wear an Eagles shirt or jacket....if you do, ignore Tip #3 cause you'll be in the fight of your life. \r
you should talk to Kzasu (aka Loco Savage) she's from that area.
I'm originally from Butler county and know the area a little. Cost of living isn't terrible, but the townships just North of the city tend to be more on the upscale side of things. Sewickly in particular. You would probably be best off looking for a place off of 279/79 from which to commute in from. I wouldn't go any farther North than Cranberry unless you REALLY like long drives on shitty roads in the winter.\r

There are a fair number of gun nuts and hunters in the region. The political analyst were not far off when they coined the region Pennsyltucky. Weather wise expect winter from early Nov until as late as April and don't expect to see the Sun much during those months.
