HD Tivo Update

Ok Comcast finally came by today and installed my cable cards. It's so nice not having to fumble through their crummy DVR menus to find what I want now. One thing that I did notice is that my picture quality seems to be a little fuzzier than before. Not sure why, I'll have to test my signals and make sure that the feed isn't bad. All in all It's a good investment and I love that the shows being recorded are displayed on the front of the DVR for both tuners. You can also take a look at what is showing on both tuners and switch between them both seemlessly. The "Now Playing" list shows HD recordings in a separate folder. I did have to adjust the color levels on my TV because for some reason the Tivo box seemed to boost up the levels of saturation and it was really hard on my eyes. When running in HD the Tivo seemed to dumb down the HD shows if the Video smoothing feature was turned on. This feature was great for 480i and 480p formats on my DLP but should be off for HD programs. It would be nice if Tivo inculded the option for the Tivo to change the smoothing feature based off of the format, it shouldn't be that tough considering the on screend guide shows which format the show is being broadcast in. I hope that feature will be offered in a future software update. The other thing that is missing is being able to transfer shows from other DVR's in my house to this one or vice versa. I'm sure it's coming but I do miss this feature. Don't get me wrong. I really like this thing it's just missing some of the little things that I would have expected at the $799 price it commands, unless you had all of those Best Buy Rewards like I did.

I have the video running in 1080i via HDMI and the audio is Dolby to PCM via optical cable.

I give the Tivo HD a 3 thumbs up and recommend it to anyone that is interested. I have been a die hard Tivo fan since the day it was introduced great job once again.

Just an update. I turned off the Digital Noise filter on the TV and also on the TiVo and this mad the picture much shaprer. One thing that I didn't realize is that the TiVo only has one type of digial output via optical and no coax. I just bought the Yamaha YSP-1100 sound projector because my reciever only had one Optical input and my 360 was sounding like crap on HDDVD. I'll post up about that later this week when it comes in.

Question: Do you loose any features by going to cable Card? Like I know if I went to Cable Card through Time Warner, I'd loose like on-demand and stuff. You???
