Have Fun!

A couple of days ago we saw a new point system implemented on the site. It’s kind of a cool idea. I really look forward to seeing how it works out once all the final pieces of it are put in place. It didn’t take long however before rumblings of “I need more points” and “Why don’t I have more points?” began to creep up. It’s the same sort of groaning that were heard in regard to the Top 25 bloggers feature. Not everyone was serious about having to make it to the top. A lot of the complaining was just in jest, yet many had real concerns about the new features. I’ll admit that I was one who shared the concern. It’s easy for me to get caught up in trying to reach a particular plateau. Then it occurred to me. If I conducted a poll of everyone on the site and asked them “What do you think of the rank system in Match Making?”, I’m quite confident that 90% of our membership would say “It doesn’t matter. Just have fun!”

Well folks, I’m here to state the obvious. No matter how many blog hits you have, points you’ve earned or how high your post count is – Have Fun!! You shouldn’t have to change the way in which you interact within the site simply to fulfill a perceived “rank” within our community. Have Fun! Isn’t that what gaming is all about in the first place? If you see a story or blog and don’t feel like leaving a comment, no big deal, don’t feel obligated in order to keep up your numbers. If you liked it, comment. If not, don’t. Have Fun! Write a blog if there’s something on your mind. I’m often insecure about whether or not people are reading my stuff. Once I decided that I was going to just write for my own benefit it became Fun.

I’m sure over the next several weeks and months Doodirock and DSmooth will introduce all kinds of new enhancements to the site. I look forward to them. I know that ultimately what they are trying to do is make the site better for everyone. But most importantly, I think they would agree with me when I say just Have Fun!!

Liked your blog so I will comment. I'm lucky and don't understand what all the points and numbers beside my name means. I just want a cool avatar and of course have fun.

I get points for commenting on other peoples blogs? :) I really should read site info forums more. I saw the points when I moused over blog listings at the top of the page and thought whatever, lol. But the idea was to get more people active in the blogging, and its worked, so no reason to argue with progress.

I could care less about the points. I just like to play games and have fun. ( You know the christians invented the point/ rank system to make themselves feal bigger than the non-christians.....J/K).

Good points, so to speak. Anytime you create a rank of any kind for any thing (yes, I made that two words instead of one), you will have those who will live only to achieve a higher rank. There is nothing right or wrong about that. It simply is.\r \r Personally, I'm saving my points up for the foam cooler. Only 132,943 more points to go!
