Gears of War - The Real Story

The other day I went over to the Epic Games Gears of War Forums and posted the following thoughts on the Gears of War XBOX 360 game -


OK, here's the real story on Gears of War. The single player version was awesome! I loved it like I've never loved a game before =) However, I've never finished any game in my entire life and this one I finished in about a week. This game was shorter than Danny Devito. How is it that someone like me who has a life/job/wife and almost no time to game, finishes one for the first time ever by playing a few hours for a few days???? WTF. WTF. Some people are looking forward to playing the same game again in tougher modes. How is that fun? It's not like new environments, enemies, weapons etc will be generated. You basically know what's going to happen but it's tougher.


So, I move on to multiplayer with high hopes only to be letdown faster than Hillary when she announces her bid for presidency. How the hell can the multiplayer for "the best" game available today for the 360 not be at least as good as a game that was developed over two years ago and designed for a previous generation of XBOX??? GOW is an amazing single/co-op game but the multiplayer just plain sucks, and I'm mainly commenting on the lobby/connection/results screens. WTF. You click A and wait 20 seconds only to get an error message saying you've been disconnected, search again. Click A, search again, try to connect, can't, search again. Oh ok finally after 5 minutes of this crap I'm playing some multiplayer which isn't that amazing. WTF. It's obvious that GOW developers left a lot on the table, this is a Halo killer in Campaign mode only but doesn't touch H2 in multiplayer. I'm now considering trading in my game! I'm sure a ton of you will soon follow and GOW on XBOX Live will disappear after everyone has beaten the single player 8 times and realizes that the multiplayer flat-out sucks, and that's by the standards of a game released two years ago.


Shortly after posting these comments my thread was deleted.  I received a warning and when I inquired as to why they had deleted the thread I received this notice -

I have my hopes up a bit that others will feel \r the same way as you since I've lost a lot of my\r H2 buddies to GOW.\r \r On the other hand maybe if you play it only\r occasionally it might bring back the fun, dunno.\r \r

That sucks that you got banned. Some people just don't like to hear shit talked about their products, it hurts their ego to much.\r \r Jmarps posting this in the GOW forum and Doodirock (site creator) saw what was up and he is going to put this on the homepage in the news section with a link to digg.com.\r \r So way to start some waves the first day you join. Just for the record people love that kind of shit here, there is nothing like calling out a developer when you both know they are wrong.
