Friends with Benefits

No, not that type of benefits! The "owns his own Home Theater business and willing to impart enless knowledge" benefits. Who knew that having kids in the school system could jumpstart my AV set-up back into modern times. View Image I managed to find someone this past weekend to swap an extra Wii I won at my company summer picnic for a PS3 (yeah, I got off on the good end of that deal, eh!). Only issue now is that I have 4 HDMI sources - cable box, XBox 360, DVD player, and now PS3 - and only a single input on the TV. So I figured it was time to upgrade my 12+ year old receiver. On his recommendation, I ordered up a Denon AVR-2309CI. Very, very solid middle-range receiver that will do everything I need it to do, and a whole lot more to help keep it future-proof.

On the lighter note, after watching the Philadelphia Eagles absolutely rape the Rams, my wife and I actually tuned in for a new show on Fox - Hole in the Wall. Yeah, you know the one - that stupid Japanease show made its way to the US with morons standing up and trying to contort themselves to fit through holes in a foam wall that is moving towards them. Failing to do so gets them pushed off their perch and into a waiting pond of green water straight from the Hudson River. I only know one other language, Spanish. So even knowing how to say "stupid" or "retarded" in two tongues doesn't convey how much this show is an utter waste of bandwidth. I give it 4 weeks, maximum, before it's pulled. For Christ's sake, they have it slotted to compete with the new Surivior season - it's like they want it to fail. And God do I hope so.

And finally, on the same "nobody can be THIS stupid" theme, I give you tree huggers that are obviously off their meds. If not, then human euthansia needs to be legalized, if only for this group.

My experience with this has always resulted in that little note under the pie charts...one secretely trying to repurpose into a traditional relationship...so as for me, the FWB remains an urban legend.

I watched about 10 minutes of that show and turned it off. The guy who greenlighted that disaster should be looking for a new job....

dude, that Human Tetris show from Japan was one of the funniest things I ever say on the net!\r \r I can only assume Hole in the Wall is a remake, with north american contestants? And not just a dub like MXC? Yeah, that may suck... but the one from Japan is great stuff

I caught some of the Hole in the Wall game, that shit was funny. Beer bellies vs Six Packs. Brook Burns is the hottest thing on the show . HOw is anyone going to get the blind wall 100k challenge? No way. They'll probably hvae like 1 person who just by sheer luck gets it the entire season.\r \r I woulda gone Onkyo on the receiver (well.. actually did :) ) but denon's not a bad chioce.\r \r

@Tank - I looked at the receiver you picked up, but opted for the upgrade to the Denon for several reasons. More power per channel, 2 room capabilities (which will be nice to shoot music outside eventually), and a handful of other reasons the industry expert rattled off to me that went over my head. :)
