For Those Who Mock The Rock
A friend sent me a link to a video on YouTube of some 8-year old putting us all to shame on Guitar Hero II. Yeah, the kid was overly precocious, and he's probably spent a great deal of time playing this video game. But what struck me was the number of hate-filled posts in response to the video, posts that blasted the kid for not playing a real guitar, and calling the game an insidiuos waste of time. Well, first of all, how do these people know that this kid doesn't play guitar. There is one in the background. And if he doesn't play for real, do you think there's a chance that this game might inspire him to try.
And second, he's 8-years old, dammit!
Yes, on many levels playing video games is a waste of time, as is watching videos on YouTube about people who play them and then taking the time to post angry comments, as is watching TV, as is, well, a lot of things. But it's what we do. We need a break, and sometimes just staring at a wall isn't enough. I just got Guitar Hero II, and I'm enjoying it. I'll never complete songs on hard or expert, but I'll have fun and waste a little time with it.
Everything in moderation.
