Fill the Boot
Just a quick observation this weekend. Our local firefighters were out this weekend collecting for charity, standing on street corners urging drivers to 'fill the boot' with whatever change they may have. Personally I think it is great for these guys to vounteer their time and for the the folks that donate. It did get me wondering though, do you think the 'out of work' vets and the homeless guys that panhadle on these corvners get jealous? I mean granted they are going up against charity, but I still think they would be pissed that the firefighters are collecting more in a few hours than they do in a week. Maybe they need to change their gimmick.

What charity were they collecting for?\r

Our local firefighers use a heavy hand when it comes to their fundraising. They go house to house and tell you that \"we see you must have forgotten to send back your envelope\". They won't tell you what the money is spent on, but it goes for their recreation fund, to keep them in beer and pretzels.
Venom: I'm pretty sure it was for Jerry's Kids
I personally get pissed ate panhandlers. It is a problem in Houston. So bad so, that just today I stopped to fill up and the screen on the pump read \"stop supporting panhandlers. Don't give them money. Let's clean up Houston.\". That said, I give to several charities. Even ones that house the homeless and soup kitchens too. I pick and choose my charities wisely. I donate. Volunteer firefighters could hold a community fundraiser and prolly come out better. As far as homeless vets go, I think it is a crying shame that any vet is on the street. They served their country and yet their country let them slip thru the cracks. Hand-outs abound for some pretty sorry class of people but not our vets? Sad!!!
