DVR Question

I have a dvr that I rent from Comcast.  I keep saying I am going to go to Tivo but that is another blog.  Here is my question.  If I record something, is there a way to transfer that show to a computer and burn a dvd?  My wife and I are teachers and we are always finding things we could tape and use in class if we only knew how.  Any help out there?

I imagine you can do it with a video capture card on your computer and some basic video editing software.

you should just torrent the show, down load it, and play it via a comp somewhere.

You can actually buy Tivo recorders with built-in dvd burners. Make sure before you purchase that it's compatible with comcast's service, though.

I know when I had comcast, you could get a firewire cable and connect your box to your pc and there was software available that would stream the content from the box to the PC. It did STD video only, but not HD. I think there was thread about it on the avsforums.

I was going to suggest a video capture card as well. I guess you could try using a DVD player with a built in burner. I have a JVC model that is under $100 that has multiple inputs/outputs that should allow you to run the Tivo signal into the dvd player and burn directly to disc. However, the capture card is probably the best way to go. Cheap and easy & you can edit out the commercials!

I assume since you are teachers you may be working with Macs. The new Snow Leopard upgrade allows some video capturing built in. While Snow Leopard is dirt cheap at $29, educators get a nice discount. Check with your local school system. My wife's are giving it to teachers for Free.
