Complete And Total Losers

Yes, Im talking to you....

The people that actually take the time to vote down other peoples well thought out personal blogs,  just so that your lame ass blog with a youtube video can be in the top 4.  Are you that sad?  Are you really over 25?  Recently I have taken the time to look at where the negative votes are coming from and honestly, its pathetic.  The really unfortunate part is that most people don't take the time to vote blogs up simply because they think the blogger doesn't benefit.  That means that only the low life, low self esteem, people have the power.  It also means that the only thing the blogger sees is the negative aspect of voting.

What really gets to me is that the community cannot seem to handle responsibility.  Now how fucked up is that when a group of adults are voting each other down for fun.  You people ruined Karma and now you want to ruin blogs?  What are you 4?  All I want to do if give more power to let the community lead, but each time I do it gets crapped on by some sad sack with some sort of popularity hang up.  Get over yourself.

I guess the only saving grace is that for the most part, the blogging works.  Lets face it, the people that vote others down for no reason cannot watch the blogs all day long.  i just wish they actually understood how lame they were being when they did it.  The vote down is actually a fantastic tool.  It lets members decided if a blog is Inappropriate, spam, vulgar, a dupe, and so on.  It allows us to not have to deal with mass PMs about some blog.  You guys have the power to handle it on your own.  So handle it!

And to all you people that are carpet voting.  Get ready, cause Im pissed enough to start laying out a ban or two.

Is there any way to set up the voting to include a mandatory comment or some identification as to who is voting?

I agree, I try and vote based on my opinion of the blog...anyone who thought the voting source was hidden from the mods is a little foolish\r \r it comes down to the blogs being a personal space and often times (in my case most the time) not useful really to anyone other than giving an insight to someone's happenings in their life and some people don't find that worthy I guess\r \r I could care less about the voting to be honest, it is all relative

Amen, brother! :) \r \r This is exactly what some of us have been talking about in one of the clan forums. Many of the members have very thoughtful/meaningful blogs about their family or jobs that get covered up by the spam or constant multiple posts that could have been summarized into just one.\r \r Most mornings, I sort through the last 25 blogs and rate them accordingly. Usually, the ones that have at least some substance to them, get voted up. Ones that seem meaningless (to me, at least), get voted down.

Ok, I'll play devil's advocate here: We're only mature or responsible or \"adult\" if we vote thumbs up? Hardly. I don't really use the system that much anyway, but just because I don't care for a particular blog doesn't mean I'm being petty. I have two choices (three really) Thumbs up - I like it, or Thumbs Down - I don't care for it. (or do like I do and ignore the whole system entirely most of the time). Just because I didn't like a blog or post for that matter doesn't mean it isn't something someone else wouldn't love, but if you want me to vote my opinion prepare to live with a thumbs down once in a while. If you're too thin skinned to deal with a little critisism, writing a public blog probably isn't for you then.\r \r That being said if the mods can clearly see that person \"A\" posts, then within 30 seconds votes thumbs down on the latest 3-4 blogs, then I'd have no problem suspending that person, or better yet, revoking thier blog page.

I get -1 all the time, no biggie.. I'll only consider it an issue when I see like -6 then I know I fucked something up bad :)\r \r CodeMonkey

Please don't group us with the sad sacks that are handing out negative votes irresponsibly. I don't vote blogs up or down since I read the ones I like.

@Big0ne\r \r No need to even play devil advocate, because everything you said is what Im trying to get across. The vote down SHOULD be used. Just not used to fill some sad little void in someones heart. \r \r Like I stated, it is there for spam, crap, or blogs that you dont think should be on the homepage. The \"bad\" voters I am talking about, are the ones that vote with no basis. Not only that, but they go through all 4 blogs in the top 4 and vote them all down. That is something I just dont get. \r \r The same really goes for the neutral people. If you like a blog but dont vote up, then the person with some lame vendetta can vote down and effect that blogs position. Even if you think it should stay up. \r \r I think what I may do is change the game. Allow no voting down, but base the top 4 one the highest votes. In the end it has to be based on something. We just need to find out what that is.

Its all about choices man. If you dont wanna see people make bad choices....then maybe remove the option for them to make a choice.\r \r Its also about the point of view. Something you see as important and should be voted up, may not be the same for me...or for anyone else. \r \r If you give someone the choice...then be prepared to see the negative sometimes.\r \r I agree this is a site for adults and we should act like adults. \r \r But not everyone will vote \"thumbs up\" on a blog that they dont see as important.\r \r Just my thoughts. I do agree also that the tool is being used improperly.\r \r But banhammer away. Yer the admin.

@Code -6? Wow.. most I have had was -3 (well a -5 but that was just once, and people didnt get the joke)\r \r Overall I think everyone who has gotten a - rating on their blog feels stung a bit, especially if its with in 1 minute of posting, its at -3 (happened to me countless times, seen it happen) and every other blog in the 5 listed gets a negative as well.. What is the first thing people do? they get mad. I usually vent in the comments section, calling the nameless people fucktards/asshats and did FINALLY get 2 PMs from people who said they dinged me because they hate me.. I wouldnt want to see them banned tho..

Hmm, I always thought the 4 blogs on the top were just the most recent 4 blogs created. Never realized they are the top 4 rated ones.\r \r I've never really used the thumbs-up/thumbs-down stuff, I think I'm going to start doing that regularly now. Which means I give this blog a thumbs...... up! :)

I vote down blogs that spam the Top 4. When I see 3 of the Top 4 from the same person, I vote them down.\r \r That may come off as looking irresponsible, but I consider it spam, so -1 they receive.\r \r Other then that, the majority of blogs I read rarely , if ever, deserve a negative vote.\r \r I'd go as far as saying that 98% of the people who blog on here have ever deserved a negative vote for anything other then spamming.
D
doodirock·
I totally agree Soup. In fact, that is basically what it is used for.

I'm new enough that I don't even know about the vote up/down system but I do appreciate the oppurtunity you have given all of us to blog about our lives and our feelings in a way that we can share with the community. In the case of some such as Jolly Roger I am sure it is theraputic to get your feelings out when you have things in you life like he is dealing with and it is educational to others of us that may go through rough times to know we are not alone. I just want to let you know that the majority of people who use the blog system are responsible and are thankfull for the avenue you have provided us to air out issues and let our views be heard, wheter we are voted up or down. Thank you!

Maybe a system where people can vote\r \r Spam - if its Spam (like 3 words, or something)\r NSFW - Booby pic\r Positive - If its a good blog\r \r Spam are notified to a blog monitor and if Spam removed, if not, marked as not spam\r \r NSFW same as spam but if a filter each person can turn off/on will block that blog\r \r Positive - gives it a + but not in the top 4, but a overall rating is given\r \r No negatives.. it will be abused

I'm almost absolutely sure that those who are trying to keep their blog in the top 4 are downing blogs with friends and using those same friends to bump their blog to stay on top. But what about those of us who use this up/down vote to keep those mentioned above out of the 4? Do I regulary vote down those who blog just to put some PoS pic or video up? Yes, If I wanna look at porn, I'll go look at porn. I do what it is I want to do here here. And believe that those to areas should remain seperate.

Like Doodi said, if the tool is used like it's intended, it can work. I only vote down either A. overtly profane and pointless flames or B. items that I don't feel are appropriate for the site, or the blogs. I'll be honest - a lot of the pseudo-SFW image \"blogs\" get a vote down for me if there isn't anything but a picture. Want to post up a hot babe, fine - but give some background, who she is, why she tickles your fancy...something. Spam, even with enormous boobies, is spam.\r \r Just my $0.02.\r \r B.

Sorry, I see the buttons but I don't vote. I look at the blogs so seldom that I feel it unfair to single out the few I do read.\r \r It's a cool idea doodi but it's ripe for abuse. Even if people don't intend to, they may at least vote + for their friend's Blogs just to be nice. It doesn't mean they don't like all the Blogs they don't read.\r \r Another thoughtful attempt at rewarding site members takes a beating. :(
F
Falelorn·
another idea - have the 4 blog listing as a marquee that has avatar - title of the blog, scrolls past the top 4 or 5 or 10.. or even 25.. then people will skip the BoD or NSFW if they want to..

Another option is to drop image support in blogs, so the nsfw blogs don't show the naughty bits if you are at work. The carpet voting is the lamest part, and you said it all in your post. It's hammer time.
G
GroovyElm·
It's been said but I think a vote requires mandatory feedback, even if only seen by a moderator and the blogger or some variation thereof. Put some accountability into the vote, both up and down. I want to see how my blog is received, but I want to know why it's voted down.
G
GotMilkman12·
I haven't blogged much but I have to agree with GroovyElm. Allow people to vote up or down but then have a drop box with set options why they voted up or down.
