Not Out of the Woods Yet!

 As I began to crest the woodland hill it became very obvious that I was going to have to hold up in this forest for the night.  The good part is that the Zeds are more drawn to the towns and cities…I guess that is because survivors and bandits flock to the towns and cities in the night seeking refuge in old buildings or on roof tops or in the case of bandits to prey on survivors who are looking for safety.

The forest isn’t quiet though – I can hear some things rustling through the leaves…..bugs buzz around and birds fly overhead.  The forest is alive.  I find a pretty dense area and drink some water and eat some food.  Then I lay in a bush and hope I make it to morning without incident.  You have to sleep – even during a zombie apocalypse.

The cities Cherno and Elektro are the biggest in the area and the calls for help in the night seem to mostly come from these areas.  I don’t know where either city is located.  I don’t know where I am located.  I have no map and I have no compass.  I do know that Cherno  and Elektro are both on the coast near the ocean.    I know the ocean is located basically in the opposite direction that I have been running.  We could see the ocean where Jeff died.  I might head back that way in the morning and try to get to a city.

Day breaks and I’m hungry and thirsty but I made it through the night without a bandit or Zed tripping over me in the night.  I drink some water and eat the last of my canned beans.  I’m out of water and beans but I do have a can of pop that I can consume.  My priority has to be food and water now.  Without food and water I’ll die.

I decide I’m going to head to the coast.  The coast is dangerous – lots of Zeds lots of survivors…..but it is also resource rich.  Dead survivors leave behind food, ammo, weapons etc.  and old buildings usually have some useful items that I can take.  I head off in the direction I believe I came from.

After what must have been hours of walking / jogging through the bush I finally come to a paved road and just up the road looks to be a small town……and running from that town is a survivor – screaming in terror.  I can hear Sgt.Schroeder begging for someone to help him as he runs.  I would run to if a dozen Zeds were chasing me.  He must of kicked the hornets’ nest.  If he has ammo we might be able to fend of the Zeds that are after him.   Maybe.  But if anymore Zeds heard that and headed our way we probably won’t survive.

Sgt.Schroeder is still pretty far away from me as I try and decide if I risk my safety in an attempt to save Schroeder.  The hard decision is made for me….Schroeder couldn’t outrun the horde.  He is quickly engulfed by the zombie rape train.  He screams.  The Zeds scream as they bring him to the ground and feast.

Another man down and another cowardly move on my part….but I’m still alive….and I have another backpack worth of supplies I can scavenge once the Zeds calm down and leave the area.  I lay on the ground watching as they devour the fallen soldier.  My energy is very low….I need food soon.

======================================================

Still alive! I feel like a bit of pussy for leaving those guys to die (and in the case of Jeff - actually killing him myself).  I'm not trying to play "darkside" but I am trying to stay alive.  I've lived for 1 entire night - that's a feat in itself.  The average life in DayZ is 3 or 4 hours.  I meet another player in the next story - this is a weird one lol but oh well.  Day 2 - still alive....but damn I need food....I will die of starvation if I don't get food fast.   Check out the great Arma II mod Dayz at http://www.dayzmod.com  still in alpha but it is so good :)

You should eat cheese.  Maybe an espresso.

Man if I had cheese and an espresso I could trade that in game for like a car....or maybe a helicopter! I'd be a god.

Arma 2 Combined Operations is on sale for $14.99 today (not sure how long the sale lasts).  I think heard steam was going to put it on as well.

Arma 2 Combined Ops sales up 500% because of the DayZ alpha mod

be warned 402 - it's in Alpha.....so it is a little goofy to get setup and getting on to a server can be a pain.....as well as staying on a server.  Just so you know - you are in for some grief :)  but it is worth it imho - it's fantastic.
