Nintendo Continues To Dominate

We've seen the Sony drop the price of their 60GB PlayStation 3 and Microsoft cut some cost off the Xbox 360, yet Wii emerges as best-selling video console regardless.

Wii™ emerged as the month’s best-selling video game system of any type in the United States and achieved its highest weekly sales rates since December, despite pricing shifts in the industry, according to the independent NPD Group and internal Nintendo figures. Wii and Nintendo DS™ remained the two best-selling video game systems in the United States, with Nintendo hardware outselling all other systems – combined.

Somehow, like a crazy black magic, Nintendo continues to cruise to top sales each month regardless of their impossible to find console. Some gamers question "how is it this is the top selling console if I can never find a place to buy one!?" Of course, many scream in vain considering the reason they cannot find one is because everyone else bought it ahead of them.

Gamers continue to wait at store openings for this console, even with a low video game attachment rate. Nintendo remained the top U.S. game publisher for the sixth consecutive month with games like Wii Play (still apparently #2 on the charts). However, the statistics to "why" their the top seller has a lot to do with the 300 DS games in the market with two heavy hitters taking top spots on sales: Pokemon Diamond (overall No. 1) and Pokemon Pearl (No. 3)

Nintendo says "Wii has added new titles (averaging nine per month since launch) at a faster rate than any other new home system." Which may contribute to the overall demand for Wii consoles but we're not sure exactly what is driving the demand. Crazy new controller, mini-game frenzies, a larger demographic of gamers or the simple desire to have something so rare.

In the end, reports are saying we can expect the product to be hard to find into 2008. This is unfortunate for many gamers that really are looking forward to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Mario Galaxy. We may not all want to buy a Wii but so many people are rushing out to do so that we may not get our gamer hands on one for a long time to come.

If you plan on buying a Wii for your kids (or yourself) this holiday season, start lining up now.
