New Releases: Week of January 16, 2022

New year, new releases, new state!  I’m officially no longer a Masshole and am now the 2old2play Chicagoland office.  Land of hot dogs, malort, pinball and also lots of video game studios!  Will this be the year I can finally acquire a PS5?!  Or is hardware dead?  I saw at least one game this week coming out for Amazon’s Luna gaming service which I didn’t even realize was a thing. I really hope video games aren’t going the way of TV so I have to sign up for 5 different monthly subscriptions if all the games I want are from different publishers…

Nobody Saves the World

The newest title from DrinkBox studios is a RPG dungeon crawler with a top down perspective.  You play as Nobody whose wand allows him to take on different roles and abilities.  It’s got both solo and co-op mode.

RPGolf Legends

This is very literally a golf RPG.  Of “course” an evil force has sealed all the golf holes in the world and you must fight to open them.  I like their marketing: “Travel around in a unique open-world where monsters and golf coexist.” Wait, does that imply I currently live in a world where monsters and golf don’t co-exist? Also now I really want to see the next LPGA tour be titled “Monsters of Golf.” Bride of Frankenstein is the number one seed and she golfs with a frying pan!

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction

Have we reached the point where there are more Rainbow Six games than Tom Clancy novels yet?!  The latest is a cooperative multiplayer that grew from the limited time mode called Outbreak in the Siege game in the franchise.  It was originally titled Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine but I guess enough people said too soon man, too soon!

Windjammers 2

I completely missed this title when the first one came out in the 90s.  Watching the trailer makes me want to go play some California Games and hit some insolent seagulls with my hacky sack!  Back to Windjammer’s, it's a top down sports game that I guess the sport is frisbee hockey?  It has single and local multiplayer as well as arcade mode and allows cross platform play between XBone and PC.
