New Releases: Week of April 29th, 2013

Well it was another successful weekend at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo. Some awesome costumes, some not so awesome, some great panels, some even better photo ops and a Raccoon Mario that seemed to follow us everywhere we went...all weekend long. Highlight of the weekend for me had to be the photo-op with Stan Lee.

Enough about me...you want your new release round-up for the week. From a console standpoint it’s a pretty much a one game kind of week but this is the week to be a PC gamer. I counted 14 PC exclusives this week. Not all of them are going to be golden but there might be some unpolished gems in there.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Put your time travel hats on because it’s the late 80’s and you play a game that takes place in the future! 2007! Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon’s (XBOX, PS3 & PC) neon colors and logo scream 1980’s but the graphics and physics are definitely 2013. Blood Dragon sports an open world island spun off from the main Far Cry 3 storyline and provides about eight hours of gameplay. My issue? If the game is based in the 80’s I don’t know why it would even have a website...I mean GeoCities wasn’t even around until 1994 and Blood Dragon’s website would fit right in. Does this mean it was WAAAAY ahead of its time? I don’t know, time travel hurts my head. Cool Blood Dragon website link here - check it out it will bring back many 1980's memories. After that check out eight minutes of gameplay below. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon drops April 30th for XBOX and PC and May 1st for PC.

Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut

Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut is basically the 2010 XBOX game retooled with updated graphics, better controls and some new story content. The original Deadly Premonition holds the Guinness Book of World Records “Most Critically Polarizing Survival Horror Game” award. Given this is the same game but they fixed some of the more polarizing elements (such as the graphics, sound and controls) I would expect The Directors Cut not to take that auspicious title away from its predecessor...but you never know.

Soul Sacrifice

Soul Sacrifice for the PS Vita makes its North American debut on April 30th. This action RPG released a couple months ago in Japan and garnered rave reviews. If you are a Vita owner you should probably check this one out.

Zeno Clash 2

Zeno Clash 2 is, if you couldn’t guess, the sequel to the original Zeno Clash. I know..shocker! Anyway, Zeno Clash 2 carries forward the original’s strange mix of genres as an open world first person fighting game. You fight all manner of beasts and beings as a continuation of the character Ghat. Your mission is to rid Zenozoik of the Golem. If you know what that means then kudos to you! You’ll be happy to hear that Zeno Clash 2 releases April 30th.
