New Releases: Week of April 15th, 2013

April is off to an inauspicious start: two weeks of exactly jack shit for game releases, then we paid our taxes. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. But before we show April what our collective middle fingers look like, I have to let you in on some good news: it ain’t over yet. This week we finally get the DC fighter that Ed Boon promised us, and a 3DS game with the longest title in existence, and next week we get some zombies. So shake those Tax Day blues, we got some gaming to do.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner- Soul Hackers

I told you it was a long-ass title. Originally released in Japan for the Sega Saturn in 1997, under the name デビルサマナー ソウル ハッカーズ, and slated for a PSone release, Sony of America never gave this title the green light. Nintendo picked up this Shin Megami Tensei sequel,  characterized by deep Japanese-style RPG gameplay fused with occult themes and the ability to converse with adversaries. Dusted off, prettied-up, and ready for some portable 3-D RPG QT, Shin Megami hits the 3DS on April 16th.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Ed Boon and Netherrealm are bringing the DC Universe back into the fighting world this week. Although Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe enjoyed moderate success, it didn’t have the longevity to become one of the greats. Perhaps the two universes just don't mesh well with gamers. Regardless, the DC guys get their own MK style fighter. The heavily-debated complete roster finally was announced, and DLC fighters lurk in the near future. Get your moves down quick, because Sarcasmo’s coming for you, and I’m bringing Solomon Grundy’s big ass with me! Here’s the full roster, at launch:

Aquaman

Ares

Bane

Batman

Black Adam

Catwoman

Cyborg

Deathstroke

Doomsday

The Flash

Green Arrow

Green Lantern

Harley Quinn

Hawkgirl

The Joker

Killer Frost

Lex Luthor

Nightwing

Raven

Shazam

Sinestro

Solomon Grundy

Superman

Wonder Woman

Injustice: Gods Among Us comes with a Teen rating, so don’t expect the gory fatalities that are the trademark of Ed’s other fighter. Meanwhile, the DC heroes and villains arrive in stores, for XBox 360, PS3, and the WiiU, on April 16th.
