E3 ‘07: Nintendo Announces WiiFit, Balancing Board Peripheral

The final, and perhaps biggest surprise that concluded Nintendo’s E3 2007 press conference continues in the vain of several of the company’s “self-improvement” philosophy games. WiiFit will combine four major forms of exercise and fitness development solutions, including aerobic, muscular, yoga, and balancing exercises.
Several of the different minigames were shown off at the event, revealing a myriad of exercises, including push-ups, hula-hooping, step aerobics and more.
All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the latest addition in Nintendo’s line of peripherals, the Wii Balancing Board. The device, which looks very similar to your standard scale, will pick up on several attributes of its user. First off, it functions just as the description fits: it will measure your weight and help figure out your Body Mass Index.
What seems more enticing, however is the gameplay possibilities offered up by the balancing and pressure sensing functionalities. The wireless board can pick up how much you are leaning to the left or right, and determine your overall sense of gravity, which leaves us thinking that the Wii Balancing Board could be a pretty integral part of future games outside of WiiFit.
