So I was thinking and wondering how folks decide upon their XBL gamertags and thought, why not share the origin of Houdini's Angel? Everyone's got a reason, some obvious, some not so much--but all equally important as to why we spend as much time living as those entities online.


 


For me, "Houdini's Angels" is the name of a 7 Mary 3 song. Yes, the same 7 Mary 3 who plays "Cumbersome"...in fact I have it on personal record that Jason Ross goes home every night and practices that song (Cumbersome) just so he can look forward to playing it during each show for that one fan who screams it out for 60 minutes straight. Ahh but I digress.


 


It's a soulful song, one of my favorites, and one that I'm sure has many levels of meaning. Second chances, losing oneself in this technological world, and letting your actions speak for themselves to name but a few. It also doesn't hurt that it has a nice ring to it as a gamertag and allows me to call out, "Houdini!" during RSV killing sprees. So in closing, Houdini is a music nerd paying homage to a band (and a lyrics writer) with a Nice Work English degree. Folks, Go check out 7 Mary 3--not only is it more than Cumbersome, it's music as it ought to be.

I always thought the lyric was 'I have become Congressman', even after I bought the CD and read the name of the song on the back.

ever since I was a little kid my brothers called me rabbit\r \r when I signed up for XBL I tried lots of variations and then happened to hear a Grand Master Flash track playing, old skool\r \r that is when greatness was born

Don't ever join Clanarchy then Durty.....we are good hearted people who help out at the soup kitchen, and play chess at the retirement home. \r \r No room for that type of shenanigans in our group!\r \r \r \r Wow, I feel ill even typing that lie out.

Cool, the origin of mine comes from making the mistake of volunteering to carry a machine gun for my platoon. :-) Nice story...

Your gamertag is pretty cool. Aside from the music reference, do you know much about the real Houdini? The magic and escape stuff is usually pretty well known. Did you know that he was also a US/British intelligence agent? Also the first man to fly an airplane in Australia... Lots of other interesting things about Houdini. A pretty cool guy (I think).
