Xanax - Not Bad.
Well, tried my first Xanax today. For the first time, I actually felt some releif from my general anxiety. Now, I've tried Klonopin and Valium, and neither have really had any effect on me. Which, I find strange, as the local radio station had a doctor on today discussing these very meds.
Xanax has a very short-term effect. Valium lasts longer, and Klonopin as well. So, why do I feel the effects of Xanax but nothing from the Valium or Klonopin (besides a little drowsiness). Strange. Oh well.
TV Shows.
Ok, "Friday Night Lights" is dropping off my list. In its place, I have added "Dexter" which plays on Showtime. I saw the first episode of Dexter this weekend and was instantly hooked.
Here's the low-down. "Dexter" is about a serial killer. But, not your normal serial killer. This serial killer works as a Forensic scientist for the Miami police. But, there's more. He doesn't kill "innocent" people. He kills "bad" people. He targets the people who have done horrendous crimes, but because of our flawed justice system, have gotten away with them. (Morality play here. Do you root for someone who murders even though those he murders most likely deserve it?)
Dexter (the character) was adopted by a police officer when he was 4-5 years old. This cop almost immediately recoginized the signs that there was something seriously wrong with Dexter: dead animals buried in graves, etc... The cop taught Dexter how to control his killer urges by hunting, and instilled a "code" in Dexter to avoid killing those that don't deserve it. He also trained Dexter to be 100% sure or other's guilt, as well as cover his tracks when killing them.

The main character of "Dexter" is Michael C. Hall. For those of you who don't know him, he was one of the main stars in "Six Feet Under". In "Six Feet Under" he played an effeminate gay character. I enjoyed "Six Feet Under" for it's first 2-3 seasons, so to see Michael C. Hall protray this character is enjoyable as it is a total 180 degrees difference from "Six Feet Under".
One of the best things I enjoy about "Dexter" is the internal dialogue that Dexter provides. It reveals his struggles interacting with regular society and in personal situations, as he describes himself as "empty" of emotions. One of his best quotes was (paraphrased) "My biggest struggle is maintaining the daily facade of having emotions around normal people. There just isn't anything there."
So, highly recommended in my opinion. The other show, that I have begun to watch, but won't review today, is "Brotherhood." Again, by Showtime, "Brotherhood is about two Irish brothers walking different paths in life. One is a notorious gangster, and the other is a respected politician. But I'll leave more of that for another day.
