Warrior Dash 2011

So I ran the warrior dash this last weekend which is supposed to be a 5k race with a bunch of obstacles and mud.  It was awesome.  The hardest part of the race was that all the hills and most of the running path was thick and slick mud.  The obstacles were a lot of fun, but not really challenging.  I also found out at the end that the race was actually 4 miles long instead of 3.1 but I am not complaining about the bonus mile.

So the race was out in Carrolton Ohio which is the middle of no where.  They were not prepared for the traffic situation at all.  It took an hour and a half to make a 20 minute drive.  I was concerned I would miss my start time, so I ran two miles to get to the race which was a nice warm up.  I am the navy blue spec running up the hill.

This was me nice and clean before the race.

Here is the starting line, much better than a starting pistol is a starting pyrotechnic.

Race gets started, did the obstacles which were all fun, nothing too challenging, but at about mile 2 my IT band in my left leg starting hurting from all the hills.  I strained it a few weeks back and apparently you are supposed to rest for it to get better, hmm I may have to try that some time.  So I ran through some pain but it was worth it.  It did however make jumping kind of painful.  Don't worry if you fall you are just falling into fire.

Then before the finish line is a mudpit where you have to crawl under barbed wire.  I am someone who if I am gonna do it, I am gonna go all out.  Some people tried to stay clean in the mud pit, hello? You are in a mud pit.  I will splash you just for fun.  So I went full in with a cannon ball landing and then a face first submerge.

So after crossing the finish line and being covered in mud, I tell my wife to get over here and give me a kiss.

And she is awesome.

Dipped in the pond to get cleaned up and enjoyed some food and the live band with my awesome wife.

There were all kinds of competitors and crazy peope there.  So if it looks like something you would enjoy I highly recommend getting some friends together and running one.

out of nearly 11,000 people who ran the race I finished in the top 1650. So I am quite happy with that percentage.
