wah: 4AM and I am checking about babies and fevers

She's got a fever. boo..... It's 4AM and I am up on the interwebs looking up what to do with babies n' fevers.

It was  a fever of around 38C it's hard to measure with those under the arm thermometers.  The only way you would know she has a fever is by the temperature. She's really active and happy.  Well, that and hte snotty nose and runny eyes! she's got a virus.  She's in good spirits today!

hope the fever went down. If you have benydral normally works if the fever ain't to bad.

Are her cheeks really red and puffy?\r \r If there is a fever along with that then it is just part of teething. I think you should keep an eye on her temperature; anything at or over 104 degrees Fahrenheit warrants an immediate emergency room visit.

Tylenol. That, and fluids, fluids, fluids. That's about all you can do for a routine fever. However, like gg2k said, if it hits that 104 mark, get to a doctor STAT.

We always had more success with infant Motrin than with Tylenol, but you mileage may vary. The worst thing about sick babies is that you just wish they could tell you what specifically is wrong -- it makes you feel so helpless.

ditto Darth about the motrin. But if it is a low fever, my doc always said to let it be. Both of my kids carried low-grade fevers when they were cutting their molars.

Our pediatrician recommends alternating Motrin and Tylonol. You may try that.

I agree with JeepChick. Fever is part of the bodies way of producing the necessary antibodies to fight whatever is attacking her system. Allowing her body to take care of it is part of building a strong immune system. If she has a low grade fever longer than 3 or 4 days get her in to see a doctor. Despite my own advice, I could never wait once it hit 102 though.

oh yeah...anything over 100 and I am medicating and running to the doctor....my eldest had a febrile seizure once brought on by a fast high fever spike....scare the CRAP outta me - but he was fine!

Like Brodysdad said... you can actually \"piggy-back\" Tylenol and Motrin. Every 2 hrs tylenol then wait 2 more hrs and give Motrin (never both together). My kids get high fevers (102 ish). By about the 2nd hour after tylenol the fever would be starting to spike again. Of course, check with your doctor, but mine told me to do it.
