Video Game Music: How does it affect you?
I love music. I have since I was a wee little brat. But orchestral scores for film have always been my favorites. As much as I love metal or techno...nothing makes my nerves tingle like a great orchestral piece for a film. The Indiana Jones theme or the intro to Krull.....I dunno. It just hits the right spots.
Over the years, video game soundtracks have evolved from simple midi pieces to full on epic scores that you could easily put to a film.
In some cases, a games music will greatly affect my gaming experience...if the music doesnt fit the tone, or is just annoying...then my experience isn't as memorable. But a good soundtrack will help keep the games experience alive and remembered. I can listen to about any music from a game I played and almost instantly remember a great moment from that game.
My all-time favorite video game track is the main theme from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, written by Harry Gregson-Williams.
Every time I hear it the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and I have to crank it and just soak it up. Its great stuff.
If you ever have a chance to get that soundtrack, get it.

Other great tracks I love come from the Silent Hill series, Halo & some of the classics like Super Metroid.
What game music do you appreciate most? And how does game music overall affect your gaming experience?
