I once was an admin of an online forum. Technically, I still am since they sometimes ask me to help out. I lay down the law harder and faster than you have ever seen. But I never stop by that site anymore. I took a very small community and built it into a much bigger one, and I did it by peer pressure to keep it family friendly. It’s a really great supportive group of people.


I left it because I got bored with them. I thought that by taking away the little arguments I could build a great group of people. Turns out I built the greatest group of people with the most boring discussion ever. Everybody is polite and agreeable even when they disagree.  It’s like discussion board circle jerk without the orgasms.


Recent in the clan forum there has been a bit of arguing. There is also a tendency to stop it by the powers that be. I really do understand this. Please don’t do it.


To be very blunt I will hate it, hate it if Doc leaves because he feels unable to be himself here. Why? Because I need people like him around. Life is better and more interesting. Is it mistake to offend people? Yup, but when the man apologizes, he rights the ship. It sails on. No need to make further course corrections.


Don’t ask me to stay on topic. Make fun of me if I don’t, and bring it back. If I get into an argument, let me make my point. Tell me to stop. Tell me I went too far. I am an adult, and I will try to make things right. Even when I still disagree. But let me make my mistakes.


But I don’t want paradise when I come here. I want good honest people, which we have, and I have a lot of fun with. The things over the last week happened. We don’t need to erase them. We just need to get back to having fun.

Hack, I agree that we need to have fun--it's why we all come to that forum. But lately, it's been anarchy. At the very least, clan-related threads with serious questions i.e. the Clan Page posting, need to be kept on-track somehow--and we all know how that one spiraled out of control. I am not even talking about the occasional inappropriate comment--that can be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. I'm just talking general signal-to-noise ratio in there. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Mike, I think we should be able to self police, a rule that says no thread-jacking will lead to people misusing the rule.
