Things I hate about Dallas

1.  Heat/Humidity - I'm a cold blooded individual.

2.  Idiot Drivers.

Begin Rant:

The majority of people in Dallas don't know how to drive.  They don't know how to drive in dry conditions, they don't know how to drive in wet conditions.

There are 2 types of drivers in Dallas:  Those that drive too fast and those that drive too slow.  There is a third type, the ones who know how to drive sensibly, but they are few and far between.

Anyways, this morning, as some of you may know, it was raining. Freezing rain.  Some of you call this snow.  Now down here, it's ice.  And let me tell you, Dallas drivers are the worst when it comes to ice.  They either drive like there is no ice at all, or they drive as if every square inch of road is covered by the most slippery ice ever and drive about 15 mph.  This of course, causes accidents.  Lots of them.

I grew up in Nebraska.  Lived there almost 25 years.  Nebraska is notorious for the ice it gets in the winter.  So, I'd like to think that I know how to drive on ice and actually, pretty damn good at it.

As soon as I got my license to drive, and the first ice of the year fell, my father took me to the local mall (which had closed for the evening) and taught me how to drive on ice.  Now, don't get me wrong, ice isn't predictable, and what your car does in response to it isn't either, but driving on ice for almost 3 hours and forcing yourself to lose control with your vehicle and then work to bring it back under control teaches you a lot.  That, and driving on ice in Nebraska for almost 10 years.

So, when I drive on ice, I downsift, I take my vehicle out of overdrive, and I try to just drive sensibly.  I don't go too slow, and I don't go too fast.  I drive in between.

What pisses me off even more about some Dallas drivers are the SUV / Truck owners.  Hello?!  Idiots?!  Just because you have an SUV / Truck, doesn't mean you are immune from the laws of physics!  An SUV / Truck does not trump nature.

Even worse.  The owners of 4x4s.  They must of been born in the shallow end of the gene pool down here.  Let me reiterate:  JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT MEAN YOUR VEHICLE CAN HANDLE IT OR DO YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE ON ICE!!!  Stupid fuckers!  (Don't get me wrong, some people down here who own SUVs/Trucks are good drivers on ice etc...  But most aren't)

I had only gone 3 blocks from home this morning when I saw a Jeep Liberty in the ditch.  They had just slid into it within the last 5 minutes, as the driver was still in the vehicle and it was still running.  Idiot.

I lived in Texas for a while and they are the worst drivers around in wet or slick conditions.....I never went out when it was raining or slick because people down there don't know how to drive in slick conditions, and also they are idiots, it doesn't take much skill to drive in slick conditions, but people in Texas don't have any......

The worst thing anyone can do on an icy road is go too slow (I consider anything less than 5 under the speed limit too slow). All you realy need to do is give yourself ample stoping distance and there will be no probs what so ever. People overlook this, drive too slow and become moving roadblocks. \r \r We get some out-of-staters up here in CT every now and then durring a minor storm and one is enough to back up an entire interstate. Its almost unbelivable.\r \r I'm with you Soup, experience is the best teacher. If everyone took the time to do what your father did to you then there would be considerably less accidents during icy/slick conditions.

Damn Soup, dad never did that for me! I just got to learn to drive manual in the 48 GMC pu. Of course, mom learned not to drink coffee while I drove..hehehe.

LOL...\r \r You learned in the '48 Chevy Pick-up, I learned '54 Chevy car.\r \r I wish dad had kept the '48. I would have liked to have tried to restore it.

Just remember, I drove that '54 Chevy Belair before you did. Yea, I wish he had kept both of those vehicles.
