The learning curve....

The first one for tonight was intended from the start to be a full blown experiment. I wanted to play with the shape, try some detail cuts and woodburning, and finally take another crack at the CA glue (Krazy glue) finish. One of my favorite things about this hobby is that I learn something new from every pen that I make, and I learned A LOT from this one.

This is a pencil made out of Marblewood. It's the first time I've worked with this wood, and it will be the last. This shit STINKS when you're working with it. Plus the look of the finished product just isn't worth dealing with the stench that comes off this wood. I'm very happy to say that I found a method of applying the CA finish that works for me and results in a super glossy, durable shine that will withstand daily use without getting dull. I just wish my pictures would show how shiny this thing really is.

There are problems with this one that I learned a lot from, but then again, it was an experiment from the start and will work great as a shop pencil...

Next up is another acrylic turning. I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out, very comfortable to write with. Someone on this site is getting one just like it this week, just in a different color [View Image]
