The Generation Gap of Gaming
It seems to me that this community is perfect for me. I'm now into my 30's and playing online games, typically, has me playing with over medicated tweens looking to prove their inability to socialize effectively. Is it just me or do the younger generation of gamers online now a days focus more on their smack talk than on their ability to play. We've all been there some one Halo hop's their way around the map and get's in the chest with an rpg and then proceeds to call you a stream of explitives and slurs. Then there are those games that have an almost unnatural maturity level as everyone communicates and talks civil to each other.
Most of the time I like playing FPS games online like Call of Duty or Battlefield because I want that rush feeling. Although I prefer Battlefield because it does seem alot more tactical than run and gun. Was reading the forums and found someone that would like to play with a more mature team http://www.2old2play.com/forum/divisions/call-duty-franchise/mw3-clans-us-old-guys-around-497394 When I don't want to unwind by unloading a magazine into someones sterum I love to play old DOS and 8-bit games. Most young gamers don't have the kind of appreciation that some of us older players have when it comes to the nostalgia of the older titles. I bought a brand new television and my roommates wanted to play Gears of War in HD but I wanted to play PONG first to usher in this new technology. They thought I was straight up crazy for suggesting playing such a "kids game" but it was too addictive to put down for 3 hours. Sometimes high end graphics take away the enjoyment of imagination in videogames.
There are tons of titles out there that "kids" don't want to play because they are not pretty. Growing up I always thought that 10-yard Fight was going to be the greatest visual achievement in videogames. Glad I was wrong but gaming has turned from a great experience into a crippling dread of mic abusers. I like Sicrik's blog post about the Star Wars I used to know http://www.2old2play.com/blogs/sicrik because I def feel that way about games. I'm sure while reading this you'll probably say, just turn the mic of stupid, which works great for playing the shooters or OnlinePoker.com. There is always the mulitplayer games like League of Legends where teamwork is crucial but looking at the chat and watching someone tear someone apart for really no good reason is ridiculous.
Maybe it's just me wishing to make gaming better or maybe I'm just getting into the wrong games. The older generation of gamers is best for being able to set aside trivial smack talk and get the job done. Taking objectives and working to complete the mission is better than racking up a body count and losing the match. Crusiing the forums I also found the Minecraft posts and it seems like this game is a step back for alot us us and a great game, I might have to check it out.[quote=Dixon_Tufar]
