I know the feeling so I am commiserating with you. 5 years ago I was took over as the general manager of the local arm of a publicly held corp and I had over 60 employees reporting to me. When I left the company in Feb of last year (as they were entering Chap 11) I had reduced it to 14 due to the company going through staggering losses due to economic conditions. I was forced into all but 4 of these layoffs. I had to look everyone of my people in the eye over the space of 6 months and let them go knowing they had families/kids/mortgages and little chance of finding an immediate job in the near future. Talk about a tough year. \r \r I won't say that broke me as a manager, but it definitely bankrupted me as a manager in that company and I had to walk away from a high salary/perk package because I just couldnt do anymore and go through the emotions of more.\r \r Good luck in the future. Hope it turns out better for you.

I'd gladly take a 10% pay cut if I made anywhere near six figures. The other option was for everybody in the company to take a 25% pay cut, so fuck EVERYBODY's mortgage.\r \r @Fade that sucks. I hate to say it, but its much easier to let go of younger employees than the ones you mentioned, with families, kids and mortgages.
