Surgery. Thursday Morning. 7:30am. Ick. Not looking forward to this, and yet, I am. I'm having a deviated septum fixed. I've never had surgery anywhere on my head, nor am I looking forward to it. I'll have to go under general anesthesia, and that brings back bad memories.

I seperated my shoulder in high school at a wrestling match. Got picked up and dumped on it by the eventual state-champ of my weight class. (This is another bad memory, as my future was bright in wrestling. I had beaten all the juniors in my weight class up to that point so my senior year in wrestling, I had a very good shot at placing high in the state championship).

Anyways, it was a severe seperation. Doctor recommended surgery (another decision I regret. 2nd opinion (1 year after the surgery) from the doctor of the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football team said he would have recommended letting it heal on it's own.).

I underwent the knife, and literally awoke from anesthesia puking my guts out. Not a fun experience. Add to that the intense pain from shoulder surgery, and the fact that I had to have the surgery a 2nd time in less then a month (They pinned the shoulder, and somehow, the 6-inch stainless steel pin they inserted in my should "broke". So they had to re-pin it with 2 pins the 2nd time), and when time came for me to have back surgery, and my doctor offered me general anesthesia or a spinal, I jumped on the spinal in a hearbeat.

It was pretty cool to watch on television as the doctor operated on my back. I was also doped up, so I was somewhat giddy.

Anyways, in 30 minutes, I go see my doctor for the pre-op visit and I get to find out what fun stuff he's going to do in my mouth (oh god that sounded bad), I mean, do in my nose through my mouth (that didn't sound any better!), I mean what the doc is going to do to my nose.

I'll take a couple of post-op pictures as I've been told I will look quite pretty with both eyes being black. Joy!

Time for Desert!

hope it comes out well for you with no complications. i'm fairly interested to get a thorough account of this as i have a deviated septum as well and suffer apnia b/c of it. eventually i've been told i'll have to undergo the same procedure.\r \r \r i've been told rhinoplasty is also an option for you when you get this surgery. for kicks, why don't you ask the doc if he can make you the spitting image of gonzo from the muppet show.

I like Fetal's suggestion about gonzo! Hehehe

Had mine straightened years ago, man it was so nice to breath right again. Not as much as a pain as one would think, just the splint up the nose for a week or so.

Good luck. A friend of mine had it done last year, said it didn't hurt as much as he thought it would, and (like neanderthal said) it was just the packing for a week. No black eyes either.
