Still hung up on Neo Geo

I realized after posting the Video Power clip yesterday that I really DID want to be the kid winning the Neo Geo in the bonus round.  I remember seeing it in Babbages in Eastland Mall (Charlotte, NC - my hangout) and literally DROOLING, standing there looking at it and the games.  I loved the cabinets in the arcades and couldn't imagine what it would be like to actually play those games at home.  The sad part was that is cost something like $600 and the games were $100-200 a pop or something insane like that.  The packaging for the console and the games were all excessive too, HUGE boxes that literally said "within me, is a treasure trove of badassery."  I remember having similar feelings about the Turbografx-16 on a smaller level, but you were a TRUE gangsta in my book if you were the kid on the block with a Neo Geo.

Irony: I never knew any kids who had a Neo Geo, thus knew no TRUE gangstas.

I used to stare at the ads for Neo Geo in magazines for long periods of time over and over. Always wanted one but damn that price.

I didn't know anyone with a Neo Geo either. I do remember thinking along the same lines with those cartridge boxes. I kind of felt like they were some sort of rich man's dream, the kind of entertainment that could only exist in the kid's bedroom of a John Hughes movie.
