Star Trek Online... surprisingly fun!!

Ok so EVE didn't do it for me.

EVE wasn't/isn't a bad game, the graphics are amazing and they've put a huge amount of content in it plus they have a very large player base.... but I just can't get into it. I went back to doing solo games like Fallout 3, W40K, etc.

I've really been looking for something fun, SciFi-ish, and a game that I don't need to know advanced calculus to play. I also just don't have huge amounts of time or patience which makes it hard to get anywhere since it seems to me that many MMO's are typically massive time sinks requiring mucho level grinding.

A friend reminded me of Star Trek Online. I wasn't too enthused since I'm not a huge Trek fan but I have enjoyed the various series and movies. I was skeptical with a newly released game because of the usual bugs, patches, and updates that are a part of MMO launches.

Long story short, I went, I tried, and dammit.... I'm having fun!

Yea it has some issues, reviews have not been kind in the gaming magazines. Honestly after looking at the different forums and reviews things looked so bleak I'm not sure why I even tried it. Something about it kept me looking at it till I finally gave in and took a shot.

I don't take it real serious, the pew-pew with my Klingon toon in a Bird of Prey is a riot. I can't wait till I get my D7 Battle Cruiser, it's my favorite ship from original series. They have ship custimization options (very limited) that make it look somewhat more modern ...but I'm going old school original style.

If you like pew-pew and want a lighter fare then you might want to try it out. If you have decent broadband then I think the digital download option from Direct2Drive and others is the fastest/cheapest way to get the game, at least that I know of.
