Analyzed My Replays
So I sat down with the checklist I posted yesterday and went over my last couple of wins and my last couple of losses. Here’s what I found.
I’m good at making probes constantly.
I’m good at scouting ~9 food.
I’m fairly good at assessing my enemies army composition and countering.
I’m good at hot keying my buildings and my army (typically my army to 1 key – so I need to improve that to a 2 or 3 hot keyed army)
I’m good at expanding.
Something I’m pretty good that wasn’t on the list was harassing my opponent’s expansions.
I’m not very good at mid / late game scouting. I just kind of stop doing it.
I’m not very good at scouting the rest of the map for hidden expansions.
I don’t really scout my own base for proxy (pylons / barracks).
Sometimes I don’t do my upgrades.
I don’t really fight for map vision (i.e. take and hold X’lnga watch towers etc.)
I don’t really plan out my building placements very well (I’m just kind of a slob about where I place things – instead of focusing on protecting my base with my building placements, making sure that 1 pylon can’t take out power to 3 or 4 buildings, and giving me vision of my entire base).
I don’t macro while I’m in a battle – I just forget about my base and let the money accumulate
Sometimes I just have way too much gas for no reason at all – gotta pull probes off gas if I don’t need it…or not build assym’s at all if not needed – just a waste
I don’t micro well (I know this)
I don’t use my chronoboost enough after the first 5 or 6 minutes
The most interesting thing for me was that in 2 matches I watched….the other guy expanded somewhere on the map and I had no clue. I check the Main/Natural and closest 3rd typically – but those unused parts of the map I almost never go check out. I’ll have to change this.
Probably the biggest revelation was that of the 2 matches I lost it was VERY close. We had similar food – so his 60/60 army beat my 60/60 army. And in these situations I didn’t have upgrades going (attack / shields / armour). I’m going to have to focus on these very cheap improvement that helps my army. So that when I hit a battle that is even that I have an edge.
