Car Seat Safety


We are talking about turning our babies around on my mommy board right now because our babies are nearing 12 months old. So many of the ladies commented about their husbands giving them a hard time about this issue, so I thought I would share some education here. This is one thing that seems so easy to me to keep your kid safe, but it seems that so many people push right past it.


Here are a few videos about how important it is to keep your kids rear facing in their carseats until at LEAST a year (which is the law in the US in most states) if not for as long as possible.

Also, if you havnt gotten your seat checked by a pro to make sure it is installed right, PLEASE do. 80% of all seats are installed or used incorrectly. If you dont know where to get it checked, you can find a location here


Im always happy to answer questions too. If I dont know the answer, I have a good friend that is a certified seat installer that will.

Funny you posted this today - my youngest turned 8 today, the milestone for when a child can be taken out of a booster seat. It's sort of a rite of passage for the kids, and something he has been looking forward to for quite some time. But real car seats...definately need to be used and used properly. \r \r The other place you can look to for information and the safety check is your state police. They'll all do it free of charge...

rear facing at least until they can walk and walk well... and that is over a year by quite a bit....

I see WAY too many people with poorly installed car seats. I pointed out problems with the installation of her car seat to my sister (who has a 9 month old) and she said \"oh, we have to switch the seat from car to car and that just makes it easier\". This is from a woman with an advanced Ivy League degree!!

Venom makes a point that a number of people have to deal with: moving between cars. When are kids were still in the carrier, we had multiple snap-in bases. This allows you to buckle the base in properly and then the carrier snaps in. When they were in cars seats we ended up with four seats just for two kids.\r \r I saw an accident once and the SUV ended up on its roof. I was helping the passengers and the baby was in a carrier that was sitting on the ceiling of the upside down SUV. Someone was lazy. They were lucky the baby and carrier didn't get ejected from the vehicle.

No excuse! Buy more then 1 car seat (I have 6) My boys are WORTH it!!\r Red---Colin still faces rear ;) Actually, I turned him around at almost 2 (his short legs starting bunchin' up--had to).\r Kade is in a Britax-not a booster! Holds up to 85 lbs. and I paid for it $$$$$$$$$$$

yeah, the whole switching back and forth laziness excuse is just that. An excuse. I can get a seat installed TIGHT in under a minute. \r I amazed that people are anal retentive about BPA bottles, and feeding their kid french fries, but cant take a few extra seconds to make sure their child is safe.

My baby girl has a Britax as well although she is outgrowing it fast. I feel that the head support is rather loose, I tried adjusting it but no prevail.
