Some blog changes

As I said before in my other blogs, there will be some changes you might notice in the next week or so in how the blogs work.  Voting will become public again since they will no long determine what happens to the blog when its in the top four.  This means that spamming thumbs down wont affect the blog at all.  Instead the voting will be used to show appreciation for the blog.  In order to safe guard anyone's ego, the blog will also not show negative numbers.  It will simply show the amount of vote ups and downs as whole numbers.  So more like...

In order to help control spam blogs, a new spam button will be put in.  Instead of just moving the blog off the top 4, it will mark the blog as spam for an admin to read.  Once again the power has to be taken out of the hands of the members in order to make sure good blogs get there just due.  I suppose it's not a bad thing, and really gives bloggers the freedom to blog without fear of shady members who spam without good reason.

The spam button may be seen on the blogs all throughout the week, but it will most likely not be functioning until an announcement is made.  We we will need to test it out until then.  We also may limit the top for to unique blogs only so double posters can not take up valuable blog real estate.  Stay tuned.

Hopefully the spam button won't be misused.

Well, it can be as misused as people want to use it. It doesn't affect anything in terms of the top four. It would only matter if we actually think it's spam.

I don't know if it is the fault of the membership that the top 4 thing didn't work out. I just think so many people post blogs in a given day, that it is a natural rotation occurs when blogs are \"pushed out\" of the Top 4. I mean in an ideal world everyone would vote on every blog they read to determine whether or not it belonged in the top 4. But then, people would get all pissy that people didn't like their blog and voted it down as we have seen here. So no matter what you did, allowed the people to have a vote on what blogs were highlighted, or you choose what blogs are highlighted someone is going to get upset. Maybe their could be a function for someone to nominate a blog for the \"top 4\" after they are done reading it. So instead of voting someone down so they don't appear in the top 4, people could be like \"hey joe schmoe had an excellent blog today, I would like to see that in the top 4\" or \"I really like seeing half naked women, I'm going to vote that to the top 4\" then an admin or blog overseer could see all the blogs that got voted to the top 4, and then make the decision on which ones actually make it because invariably, there will be more nominations than spots on the top 4. Just a suggestion.

Great new plan. I think the \"double-post\" should be high priority if possible.\r \r Thanks!\r

Spam blogs?! I know I haven't been here long, but what is your definition of a spam blog...?\r \r The other idea seems cool. Number of positive & negative ratings. Also the idea to eliminate dups in the top/most-recent four sounds good. Too bad you can't shrink the icons more and make a 8 or 10.\r \r
