Huh. REALLY? They are awesome. It's funny there are a few things that Canadians get that you would *think* have "American" written all over them, but haven't taken off.  We get all the ship flavours that you get, plus a few more. We have "chip trucks" sort of like your hot dog vendors, but they sell hot dogs, hanburgers but more importnatly really, REALLY good french fries. Right out of the oil. You can't spit in downtown Ottawa without hitting one of these guys. Also there is one dish that we have that you need: poutine.

Poutine (you say "poo-TEEN" ha ha... poo-teen) is a modernization of a French Canadian dish. I have heard that it's originally baked potato and ham. but anyway whatever. Today it hot fresh french fires, cheese curds (and it has to be curds) and gravy. Usually turkey gravy. Holy hell: it's GOOD. Not good for you, but it's soooooo good. I have a salad oftena dn I refer to it as my "veggie poutine" but instead of fries, gravy and cheese, I have tomatoes, peppers and broccoli. but other than that it's the same.

What local "delicacy" does your state/city have that you think would catch on?

I've seen dill in the store, but not ketchup. \r \r I was raised on Manitoba Mennonite foods, so that is my ethnic choice. Of course, I can't spell most of the names for the dishes, but it's good eating. We still bring in about 100 lbs. of farmer sausage from a producer near Altona every year.

no...that isn't it. Farmers sausage is unique. It's a Menonite raw smoked pork, extremely lean.\r \r http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/farmer%27s_sausage\r \r It looks a lot like boerewors on this page http://www.foodsubs.com/MeatcureSausage.html

Although I'm told it is pork only, where Boerewors is pork and beef.\r \r It seems pretty regional because the \"farmer\" sausage made by the memonites here is not the same. It is so lean you have to add fat to the pan to fry it.

Poutine is great stuff. There is a French Canadian restaurant in Hollywood that serves that and smoked meat sandwiches. \r \r One of the few perks of living in South Florida. =)
