RROD
I got it today, have gotten it off and on for the last week or so, now its done. Called it in, was directed to do it all on xbox.com, did it and was presented a bill for $94.00.
I bought the console at Best Buy 12/12/06
I thought that microsoft put out a standard 3 year warrenty
why would I pay $94 for a repair, when I can buy a brand new arcade for $60 more?

Ouch, sorry for your loss. Mine might be close to joining your's. That'll make 5 confirmed kills for me.\r

On the bright side, MS has always been pretty good about getting everything taken care of, though its been a bit over a year for me. I would press and make sure you get some kind of freebie for your trouble. :)
I just called and got someone immediately. He was very polite and apologized and knew how frustrating it could be. Had me pop the hard drive off and try turning it on for troubleshooting (I'd already seen it go RROD, come back up, then RROD again). Confirmed it was broken, gave me my number and said the box is on its way. I've had the feeling it was going to happen for a while so I'm planning on getting a second tomorrow.\r

I'll get the free month of live. When I asked what would happen to my downloads/xbla games if I don't get my console back he said something about the registration transferring to the new one. Be interesting to see if that really happens.
yes just got Mario Galazy today but haven't tried it yet.
What they did for me was I had to create a silver account and they put the points on that. Its only a good idea if the console doesn't die again. If this current one goes, they have to reimburse me on probably another new silver account.\r
\r
But glad you at least got someone who spoke english when you called. Sometimes that in itself is a challenge.\r
\r
Me: I want to speak to someone else\r
Typical MS rep: Why?\r
Me: Because I can't fucking understand you, and you apparently cannot understand me.
My condolences… I had one RROD and another RROD scare. It definitely sucks. \r

From what I understand, the XBLA downloads are tied both to you system and to your profile. So, now that you've lost your system, you will have to be logged into your profile to play XBLA downloads purchased on your old system.\r
\r
It's more of a pain in the butt than it sounds. My son can no longer play a number of downloads I purchased, since they're tied to my gamer tag, not his.\r
\r
I hope you get a quick turnaround on your 360. I'm thinking of picking up Super Mario Galaxy this weekend. I'm curious to hear how it is.
Bummer... I just got my unit back this week that RRoD'ed right after Halo 3 came out - it took just under a month from when I called until another unit came back. They couldn't fix my launch unit, so they just sent me another one, which was oddly manufactured in September of 2006. I picked up a Arcade unit to bide the time until they fixed my other one. I think I'll just keep using it, because it's got an HDMI port on it.\r
\r
They also didn't transfer my downloads to the serial number of the new console, so I have to be logged in to Live to play my stuff. I suppose I could remedy that with a complaint call, but I'm tired of dealing with them. \r
\r
Here's hoping they get your system back to you quickly!
yeah downloads are connected to the gamertag that downloaded them *and* the console they were downloaded onto. So your other tag will not have to access the content it used to. I had to do a lot of re-downloading. for the xbla games, i deleted them and then re-downloaded them and i was fine.\r

right now, gf has my launch and i have an arcade with her old 20 gig hard drive. and hdmi is so worth it, 1080i spoils you. LOL
Thanks guys. I'm going to get a new system today with the hdmi and keep the old one as a spare and let my bf borrow it so he can see if he likes it or not. I was surprised the customer service guy said they'd transfer ownership to the new console if I don't get mine back. I wasn't about to contradict him because based on stories I've read on the boards I doubt it. Figure I'll just wait and see what I wind up with when it comes back.
My sincere condolences.
I put in my repair request through the website. It was basically, 'Are there red rings?' Yes. 'OK we're sending a coffin, have a nice day'. Never had to talk to a single person (which was good because I'd tried to get through three times and each time got stuck in an endless message loop)
I hear now they just send the label and you have to box it up yourself.
the $94 is to get the possum smell off.
