Playstation Plus

I am new to this I just got a PS3 recently those of you on my xbox FL I don't know when I will be back as it has stopped working.

          On to the subject now I got a 3 month subscription for playstation plus to try it out, they fooled me I saw that plus members where getting free games and discounts then I found the catch the games are only free as long as you have plus, yea I know what was I thinking I did not find this out until after I had signed up for it and started to download a game, I thought maybe it was just for the arcade games but nope it's for all of them.

          So now I have a question if I let the plus membership lapse and wait a month or whatever and get it again will those games be free once I renew it, or will that only be available if the game(s) free at the time that I renew it? For instance Shift 2 is free this month to plus members now in a couple of months my plus runs out and I am no longer to play it, unless I buy it.  So I go a few weeks without plus then renew it will I be able to play it again or will I have to buy it because it is no longer available for free?

Do the discounts work like this to, am I going to get a message stating it is only this price as long as you are a plus member if you stop being a plus member you will have to pay ____ additional to have use of this product? this may seem like a ridiculous question but nothing surprises me these days.
