One ring to ruin them all
I looked into the red ring of death last week, and I hope I never have to again. Dealing with EB Games was terrible. They didn't want to honour the $100 warranty I bought from them. I actually had to argue with the clerk.
I posted the full version in my blog here

That sucks, i walked in with mine and walked out with a new one within 15 minutes when i took mine back to EB.\r

They have stopped issuing PRPs though because they're loosing too much money. So their corp attitude adjustment happened after i did my switch out, that could be why.\r

But bottom line is, it's a contract. They have no option but to honor it.
Best Buy has the best replacement warranty, the store I frequent must replace like 2-3 per day, If you're under warranty, just walk in tell them your xbox is busted, you go get a new one off the shelf, they give you credit for whatever you paid for the original xbox. I've known some people who come in say, \"the xbox doesn't work, and can I just get my money back\", and they say sure...\r

lots of people like to upgrade to the elite or halo edition xbox. not a bad deal considering the new 65nm chipsets.
That's what I wanted to do Android, use my credit to upgrade to the Elite. But I didn't even bother asking after the trouble I had to go through just to have my warranty honoured.\r

And the baby is sleeping J-Cat ;-)
Three times I had to deal with the RRoD. Everytime I went straight through Microsoft. They sent the shipping box by courier. I sent the machine back the same way. Got a new one within a week. No problems.
