New Finds

Yesterday I left the house with no intention of buying anything, but I hit a garage sale on my way to Llano to drop some things off. It was mostly new stuff, but much of it was stuff we can use at the house. I also got some t-shirts for .25 each. One was a black Pennzoil Racing Team shirt, still in the original pkg. Not too exciting to most, but in my search for old things, I run into things that save me money around the house. I also bought one of those heavy glass tea jars with the spigot at the base for 8.00. If you have one or have seen one, you know that's a great deal.

I came home from Llano to visit a woman I had made an appointment with who was having a living estate sale by appt. only. I kinda figured this one would be way over my head and my budget, and for the most part I was right. However, I was intrigued by the fact that the woman wanted me to come before 5 PM so she wouldn't miss NASCAR. That's not something you hear every day!

If you are interested in antiques, you would have been in the same state of awe as I was when I went in the house. One word comes to mind - EVERYWHERE! She had a floor lamp for 1200 I cannot begin to describe. I don't know how. 1200 sound imposing, but I'm quite sure it was worth perhaps twice that. Lalique glassware, Jasperware, Hull, Wedgwood, Tiffany. . .it was a museum. I did buy a bronze cherub on a marble base and a few other less significant things. However, as I left, she said she would be happy to do a lay-away for me; words I wish had not been uttered. I have five Royal Dalton mugs, a piece of Tiffany crystal, an old oil lamp, a Jasperware plate, and an OLD Wedgwood pither picked out. The mugs were $250 for all, which seems expensive. However, one of them is worth more than 150, and none will bring less than 90. Besides, I may keep those. When I go back, I may take a picture and post it. For those of you that appreciate such things, you won't believe what she has accumulated.

I start back to work with new clients tomorrow. Knowing this will be my next to last account has given me a boost. In addition, one of our new hires is great at what she does and seems to tolerate my warped sense of humor.
