Need some wireless setup advice..

First of all, I'm back! I've been off and on 2o2p not as much as I'd like- real life has been hectic! Things are going very well, though.


For as many tech-savvy people as there are in 2o2p, I was hoping to get some advice on a wireless setup. I have DSL setup and currently only one thing can be hooked up at a time. I used to have a router a while ago, but at the time was having a lot of connection problems due to wiring outside of the house. Since then, all is fixed with that and wanted to get the house hooked up for wireless. I'd like to have my computer, 360, PS3, and blu-ray player (has netflix) all hooked up to the internet. I was hoping some of you could recommend a good wireless setup, especially one that won't slow down the game play online. I've heard from some that wireless can sometimes be a little slower than wired and would like to minimize that problem if possible. I guess I need to know what a good wireless router would be to get as well as wireless adaptors.


If anyone could offer any help, I would really appreciate it.

LOL Caesar I don't think that's quite what he was looking for. As far as wireless setup, I personally use a Linksys WRT150N router, run my computers wireless, and my xbox's wired. You can use the firmware installed, or you can get the DD-WRT firmware and set up priorities so that when you are on your xbox, most of the bandwidth goes to that. As far as the details on how to do that, I'm not the one to talk to, but there are several posts on this subject around. I think there are some on the Halo series forums.

Nuber has a good recom with DD-wrt dealio, also you could use tomotoe (firmware flash of router) to do the same thing.\r \r Tank loves a game router by D-link, so PM him and he will give you the lo-down.

To be honest, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to installing additional things. I tried to follow the tutorial and got lost in the step with the firmware. I'm sure it works, but to be honest am quite uneasy especially with all the problems I've had with Verizon in the past. I had a lot of problems just installing a router as-is- installing additional patches and firmware makes me a bit uneasy.\r While I really appreciate the recommendations, I was hoping for something a little more simple, like wireless router X and USB X are great lol.

I am currently using a Belkin N router and I like it just fine. What ever you do check online prices through nextag.com before you buy anything in store.
