need help: plush animal question

Erica's butter bear goes with her to daycare so she can sleep. We never got a replacement bear just incase. I can't find another bear anywhere. It's her fave but he is DIRTY! I am worried that all the washings/dryings is going to turn poor butter bear into roadkill.


Any ideas? Sean DID find a replacement, but it didn't have the moon emblem on his tummy so he didn't get him (d'oh!).  I thought he was a shining star bear... but no. Not a webkinz either. He's from ToyR Us (I think, my Dad got him for Erica) He's... 7 inches ish. yellow.  Please help.


I either need a) a line into another replacement bear just in case  AND/OR


b) ideas about how to wash the bear to keep him clean, but not to destroy the poor wee guy.


What else: got tales of Vesperia... it is exactly what I want. A stupid little JRPG.  Sean even let me have the TV last night EVEN though he had $$ riding on the game...   what a guy!

You could try to have the bear dry cleaned instead of putting it through the washer and dryer...

In an effort to prolong the life of the bear you have, get some Scotch-Guard(tm) for him. It will minimize stains. You can also then wash the bear in a delicate cycle for a shorter time. That should help him hold together longer.

....from experience...not \"back-up\" will do. My daughters blankie was then I was constantly sewing up the holes and when I washed it, it was on delicate cycle....still didn't hold up over time. The \"back-up\" still sits unused, never been touched in her dresser. The scotch guard might be a good idea...especially since he's a stuffed animal and all......good luck!

I'm kind of in the same boat, but it's a stuffed bear from when I was a kid that I want to give to my 1 year old son. I've checked into the dry cleaning thing and it's been recommended NOT to, because of the chemicals, they can stay in the stuffing. What was recommended to be was to get the stuffing removed and steam clean the bear.

Bad chemicals in dry cleaning esp. with something baby would be putting in her mouth.

Don't use scotch guard on it until she stops teething or plain putting it in her mouth. The best thing is to use wool lite and put the bear in the wash with a comforter on delicate. but only wash it when it really needs it. And for drying use a hair dryer instead of your tumble dryer it will help it from being tossed about and ripping a stitch. all this does work my niece is 21 and still has most if not all of her stuffed animals from her infant years.

My wife says (from experience), hand wash it with woolite.\r \r Some teddys can be put in the washer but it depends on what type of stuffing is inside. If it's got stuffing inside that will wad up when it's wet, it'll never be the same when it comes out.\r \r But if you do have to machine wash, cold water and delicate in the dryer low heat.

I'd start weaning her onto a new fav toy ASAP. You never know when it might be left or catasrophically damaged. My daughter will use any blanket, and has about 12 favorite toys now.
