My Thoughts on Diablo 3
Most people like to give their personal opinions regarding things they are active in, and in this I am one of those people. I will say right off however, the WoW forums (and unfortunately the D3 as well), are full of 99.9% toxic waste. I mean really, am I supposed to feel ‘dirty’ by simple reading the repetitive diatribe that is spewed there? I do though. Hell the forums can wield such weight that I am sure this can (and maybe does) true break games.
So. I’ve read a bunch of whooey about the simplicity of D3. The issues with being knocked out of the game, encountering subsequent errors, etc.
1. Simplicity – At level 10, yes this game is extremely casual. It’s like having the fun of raiding without the stress of gearing up or progression. Now I don’t know if it will be more difficult as I get to the more challenging modes, but even if not, I had fun. I ran with 2 guildies (Charity & Nin) and a certain Mr Jamison *waves to all* from 2O2P. While I can’t speak for the others, I really had fun and isn’t that what playing games should be about? Of course, everyone’s definition of fun varies and others wouldn’t find the casualness that much fun. I completely get that and understand it. But why dismiss it as fail, just because it’s not your level of fun? Some people just thrive on not being happy, I suppose [:P]
2. Battle.net issues – There are issues that existed even up through last night, until they had to take the game down for maintenance. Was I happy that I was knocked out and had nothing but error 3003s afterwards? Nope. I was rather pissed. I’m not surprised though. Hell I remember when Cata came out, it took me a full 90 mins just to be able to log in for the first time (and that was after I had waited up until 3 am for the release), and I believe that was a smooth release. Shit happens. Do we like it? No. Does that make the game fail? NO. I don’t think that servers can ever be stress-tested enough to prepare for game/expansion releases. It’s no big thing. Well, unless you read the forums and then you will see that the world has truly came to an end. Har Har
The biggest thing I dislike is that fact that I can only group up with 3 other people. Would love to see that expanded, but then it would be an MMO instead of multi-player, wouldn’t it. Maybe? See? We are never happy lol.
As far as how long I will play, well… I can’t see playing much beyond getting a toon through Inferno. Maybe 2. That being said, however, there’s still the auction house to make real money, and wouldn’t it be cool if that paid for my WoW time? [:D] I think it will keep me occupied until GW2 comes out, and depending on how that plays out, it might even replace WoW. At the very least it will give me the break I need from it until the MoP expac comes out.
