My Red Ring of Death

Well, I can't believe this happened to me. On this day, August 10, 2008, my Xbox 360 suffered a fatal error. I've had this thing for less than six months, WTF! I'm going to try and expedite this as quickly as possible. It just happened so I don't even know if I can get my downloads off of it. I ordered it from Best Buy online because there wasn't an Xbox 360 Pro anywhere in the state of Indiana. If any of you know any helpful hints, websites, words of encouragement, or condolences for my loss, then please let me know.

Did you get the Best Buy product replacement program when you bought it? \r
60 bucks gets you 3 years (I think) of coverage. If anything happens, you take the Xbox back to a store and they put a new xbox in your hands, right there.\r
\r
Usually those programs are a scam to make money, but given the 360s habit of cooking itself, I bought it... and needed it. \r

I don't think you could get it applied to a refurb though... my condolences.
I thought Microsoft corrected the problem and the new systems weren't crashing. When it happened to mine, I contacted MS and I had a shipping box within a couple of days. It took about three weeks to get it back, which was less time than I expected, and less time than MS said it should take.
IF it's within 30 days, you can take it back to BB in the store and get a new one. If it's past the 30 days, then if you bough their product replacement plan, you can take it back to the store and get a new one. If neither of those are true, you're going to be introduced to Microsoft's coffin service and be without your xbox for 2-4 weeks.\r

Your saves aren't a problem,. If you exchange your system, just ask them if you can swap your hard drive and the hard drive on the new replacement system. If you're sending it into microsoft for repair, i don't believe they require the hard drive so you should be in luck.\r

At any rate, anything you've downloaded off Live, you can re-download at no cost if it comes to that. But the one thing that is lost forever if you have to send your hard drive in are your game saves. WHich is why i've never saved games to my hard drive, i use the memory carts. Game save data is the only data on the system that is not replaceable.\r

Anyway good luck.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello. I greatly appreciate all the advice you shared. I couldn't believe Naveeda's comment until I joined the ranks . . . I'm now on my third 360! My third one in 10 months. My second failure was the optical drive dying.\r

At this point in the year I'm officially out of the one manufactures warranty. Let's hope it holds.\r
More later! [Honest]
